CTECs, or California Tax Education Council registered tax preparers, are individuals who are approved by the state of California to prepare tax returns for a fee. They must complete annual education requirements and register with CTEC to legally offer tax preparation services in California. CTECs are not Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) or Enrolled Agents (EAs), but they are trained and authorized to help clients file their taxes. Their registration ensures they meet state standards for tax preparers.
