What is a CNA float?

A CNA Float, or Certified Nursing Assistant Float, is a CNA who is assigned to work in multiple departments or units within a healthcare facility rather than being assigned to just one area. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to quickly learn the routines and needs of different units, such as medical-surgical, emergency, or intensive care. CNA Floats help cover staffing shortages and ensure patient care is maintained across the facility. They perform the same basic nursing duties as other CNAs, such as assisting patients with daily activities and monitoring vital signs, but they must be comfortable working in various settings.
