What is cellulitis?

Cellulitis is a common, potentially serious bacterial skin infection. It typically affects the deeper layers of the skin and the tissues underneath, causing redness, swelling, warmth, and pain in the affected area. The infection most often occurs on the lower legs but can develop anywhere on the body.
