    This Opportunity

    WSP is currently initiating a search for a Generation Electrical Engineering Area Lead to join our Power & Energy team in Houston, TX.  The Area Lead (AL) is responsible for oversight of the Generation Electrical staff in the Houston, TX office. This individual will manage a team of Engineers in addition to acting as the responsible lead or project engineer for projects. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Power Generation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

TRC Companies have now joined WSP, deepening our power practice and expanding our energy advisory and intelligent grid services. We're partnering with clients to shape how energy systems evolve around the world-and we need your help.

    Your Impact
    • Lead and/or support electrical engineers and designers on design of power generation projects
    • Lead and/or support electrical engineers and designers on power plant and switchyard electrical system upgrades
    • Lead project proposal and budget development
    • Manage all financial and technical aspects of performance for the team
    • Day-to-day oversight of a team of engineers including personnel reviews and goal development.  
    • Coordinate, review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for smaller and less-complex projects, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
    • Involved from project inception to completion in the management of design and construction of electrical infrastructure projects.
    • Lead, oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, scientific, and construction professionals to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
    • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
    • 12+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing detailed design engineering experience in power generation projects, including calculations, equipment specifications, etc.
    • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
    • Experience in power generation projects, detailed design engineering and relay coordination and schematic design 
    • Experience filling the role of project engineer for projects occurring concurrently
    • Experience managing a project team or a department
    • Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
    • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
    • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
    • Highly proficient in CAD, Microsoft Office, and ETAP or SKM software experience
    • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
    • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
    • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
       

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Master's Degree in Engineering.
    • Owners engineering experience in generating facilities.
    • Previous experience leading a group of engineers.
