Job description

DevOps Engineer

TWST Events is seeking a hands-on DevOps Engineer to own the infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and database operations for our SummitCast product. This is a critical role supporting high-volume events for investment clients. You will have significant autonomy to manage and improve reliability across QA, staging, and production environments on AWS and Cloudflare, while driving key initiatives such as the migration from App Runner/Elastic Beanstalk to ECS. The ideal candidate brings a blend of DevOps engineering and database administration expertise, thrives in a product-oriented environment, and is excited to shape infrastructure decisions that directly impact event delivery and client experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Cloud Operations

  • Administer and maintain cloud-based Linux servers and Docker containers for SummitCast, overseeing deployments, upgrades, backups, imaging, and observability systems—including monitoring and alerting—to ensure proactive issue detection and high reliability for event workloads
  • Manage application configurations within AWS
  • Manage SummitCast hosting on App Runner/Elastic Beanstalk, with an eye towards migration to ECS
  • Maintain CDK deployment (app_stack.py)
  • Coordinate with AWS and other vendor support teams to resolve platform-level issues
  • Configure and maintain Cloudflare Zero Trust and DNS
  • Manage Atlassian Bitbucket repositories and CI/CD pipelines
  • Create and maintain documentation for server deployments and application installation
  • Potential to maintain and evolve Celery-based application workers for SummitCast
  • Establish and participate in incident response processes, conduct post-mortems, and drive continuous improvements to system reliability and uptime
  • Proactively identify opportunities to automate manual processes using scripting (Python or Bash) and infrastructure-as-code to reduce toil and improve consistency
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers to improve deployment workflows, developer experience, and release velocity while maintaining operational guardrails
  • Establish and maintain operational runbooks, playbooks, and knowledge-sharing practices so operational expertise scales beyond any single individual

Database Administration

  • Own all SummitCast PostgreSQL and Redis database systems across QA, staging, and production
  • Handle deployments, upgrades, monitoring, backup/restore, and environment builds
  • Write ad hoc SQL scripts; assist developers with query tuning and database issues
  • Design and implement high-availability configurations and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity for production workloads
  • Automate routine database operations and environment provisioning where feasible to improve consistency and reduce manual effort

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Proven experience administering Linux servers in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or equivalent)
  • Strong PostgreSQL database administration skills in production settings
  • Experience with Redis in production
  • Experience with Terraform/OpenTofu
  • Familiarity with Cloudflare (Zero Trust, DNS) or equivalent secure access/proxy tooling
  • Experience with Atlassian Bitbucket and CI/CD pipeline management
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or a hybrid DevOps + database administration role, with demonstrated ownership of production systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, or similar) for infrastructure and operational tasks
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice to Have

  • Background in both DevOps and DBA functions in a product-oriented environment
  • Hands-on AWS experience with App Runner, Elastic Beanstalk, and ECS
  • Experience with AWS CDK or other infrastructure-as-code tooling
  • Familiarity with Python and Celery
  • Experience with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes or ECS) and modern deployment patterns
  • Hands-on experience with observability/monitoring tools and incident response practices
  • AWS certifications (e.g., DevOps Engineer – Professional) or equivalent
