Job description

Printpack is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician. This position is located in Newport News, VA and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Shift: 7PM to 7AM night shift.
Ability to train on day shift
Sign On Bonus: $2000

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the successful operation of production machines according to priority
  • Ability to use a systematic approach in solving problems through analysis of problem and evaluation of alternate solutions; use logic, mathematics, or other problem-solving tools in data analysis or in generating solutions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of technical skills to include, but not limited to, the following: proficient in machine shop practices - welding, fabrication, minor electrical skills, plumbing skills, computer skills, troubleshooting, reading a micrometer, drill press operation, and reading and understanding diagrams.
  • Use precision measuring equipment to perform alignment of pumps, shafts, motors and gearboxes.
  • Perform rigging and lifting of heavy components/equipment while following all applicable safety requirements.
  • Use a wide range of mechanical blueprints to perform tear down and rebuilds of manufacturing production equipment and components.
  • Working knowledge of electrical control systems
  • Be able to wire and verify operation of 3 phase, single phase and DC motors according to electrical schematics.
  • Ability to follow mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic layouts.
  • Tracks work performance, document parts and repairs completed through use of computer-based maintenance software.
  • Efficient and effective troubleshooting ability. Knowledge and effective use of computerized systems
  • Working knowledge of production support system.
  • Passion for driving results & demonstrated history of self-development
  • Demonstrate knowledge of plant and process safety rules, safe operating methods, and good housekeeping.
  • Demonstrates effective interaction skills to support team activities related to effective process decisions and goals.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance
  • Conduct Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures
  • Communicate actions taken to repair the machine to Operator and/or Lead
  • Demonstrate knowledge of plant and process safety rules, safe operating methods, and good housekeeping standards.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school graduate or GED required
  • Able to work any shift including 12-hour rotating shifts schedule and overtime including weekends
  • Additional related training and/or certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in using manual and power tools
  • Ability to trouble-shoot/repair mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic problems
  • Basic fabrication and machining skills
  • Use of precision measuring devices including micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, etc.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to read electrical schematics
  • Ability to read mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Ability to operate a high-lift
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to check fuses; wire motors; repair lighting issues
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
  • Ability to lift 90 lbs
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

Preferred Additional Requirements

  • 3+ years industrial maintenance & electronics/electrical experience or a combination of industrial experience and vocational/military education
  • Proficiency in welding
  • Able to write and communicate effectively with ability to train others
  • Multi-crafted and competent in hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical repairs
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications and computerized maintenance software
  • Industry certified PLC training a plus
