Job description

In this role, you will lead initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and risk management via process, systems, and data in one of the largest scale networks in the world. The person in this role will work within a fast-moving design, deployment, and operations organization and enjoy digging into complex technical and cross organizational challenges in order to implement process alignment and technical system solutions at a global scale.Own and shape the cross team alignment to deliver Meta's next-generation AI and rest of world infrastructure. This role has direct influence over how we design, deploy, and operate the environments that connect our global infrastructure. This role has broad scope with measurable outcomes: You lead the teams and processes that enable subsea operations and critical reliability improvements—work that is immediately felt by partner teams. Blend of strategic and hands-on technical leadership: You will drive long-term alignment, process and tooling direction while also being close enough to the ground to unblock restoration issues, optimize workflows, and ensure operational performance expectations. Cross-Functional reach across Product Engineering, Security, Compliance, and Investment teams: This role interfaces with a broad cross-functional group of stakeholders, providing the opportunity to influence standards, champion automation, and extend best practices across the subsea ecosystem. Opportunity to build and scale a team: You will develop talent, define operational guardrails, and shape a team centered around ownership, precision, and continuous improvement.
Network Engineer, ENS Strategic Lead Responsibilities:
  • Execution Enablement: Help develop and maintain execution plans and resource modeling across indirect teams. Help structure teams and working groups to optimize for delivery of business outcomes. Set clear expectations, establish operational guardrails, and build a team emphasizing ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Project Leadership: Lead highly cross-functional infrastructure projects and programs in a matrix organization covering a range of areas (data center, production network, infrastructure, logistics, supply chain, compliance, legal, and software system engineering)
  • Roadmap Ownership and Strategy: Own the planning and execution of an organizational-level roadmap and strategy to deliver business outcomes
  • Mentorship: Coach and develop other engineers and people managers on the team
  • Incident and Escalation Management: Investigate complex technical and cross-team issues during major incidents and escalations across the ENS organization. Partner closely with cross-functional teams, managed service providers, and third-party vendors to drive resolution and prevent similar issues in the future
  • Strategic Automation Leadership: Drive continuous improvement across the team to analyze operational activities, identify automation opportunities, and advance our goal of AI software enabled solutions. This includes shaping partner requirements and roadmaps, and at times directly implementing lightweight solutions in code
  • Data Measurement: Drive alignment into the metrics we report across the organization so operational teams can focus on the areas with the best return on investment, including analysis of escalations, fault/event trends, infrastructure capacity, and vendor performance
  • Collaboration and Partnership: Drive alignment with internal partners (Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Traffic, Logistics, Program Management) and vendors (field engineering, logistics, facilities, and hardware partners), proactively addressing their needs and issues across global sites
  • Technical Leadership: Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action to resolve operational issues across edge and backbone architectures and hardware platforms. Partner with highly cross-functional teams to identify and solve problems at the scale of Meta's rapid growth
  • Business Ownership: Represent the organization and manage interaction with third parties such as hardware, colocation, telecom carrier, and managed service partners
  • Communication: Communicate across teams, organizations, and internal and external stakeholders to drive infrastructure operations development and management
  • Standards Management: Create, maintain and enforce operational Standard Operating Procedures, runbooks, provisioning workflows, and acceptance criteria. Ensure all operations adhere to Meta-wide best practices in design, security/compliance, and reliability
  • Supervise Vendor and Managed Service Provider performance assessment and issue/problem management to deliver a healthy, scalable ecosystem of vendors and MSPs focused on network availability, performance, and Operational Excellence
  • Travel: International and Domestic travel may be required up to 15 percent

  • Experience leading operational teams by setting priorities, defining execution plans, and translating organizational strategy into measurable outcomes
  • Experience successfully collaborating across a global team and with cross-functional partners (e.g., physical infrastructure & network design, engineering, strategy, security, policy, and legal) at all levels to include vendor service delivery managers, individual contributors, and people managers
  • Experience identifying key metrics/measures, such as SLA/KPIs, that will be used to evaluate success and validate the business impact of operational services
  • Experience with purchasing, negotiating and end-to-end supplier management, such as managing global Requests For Proposal and contract negotiations
  • Knowledge of coding and automating in higher-level languages such as Python, Go, or JavaScript with demonstrated ability to leverage AI to build such tools in partnership with development teams
