Vice President, DevEx

Description -

TheVice President,DevEx(Developer Experience)role within the CTO, Software teamis responsible formaximizing AI-enabled developer productivity, efficiency, and satisfaction by reducing friction across the software development lifecycle for thousands of developers building HP products' software and platform technology stacks. This newly established organization will deliver capabilities that make it easier, faster, safer, and more consistent for engineers to build, test, release, andoperatesoftware at scale.

This role is critical to advancing HP's software-led business transformation by accelerating product velocity, enabling new digital business models, and amplifying the impact of shared engineering capabilities across the company.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer of Software, this leader will serve as a trusted partner to engineering executives across HP. The role offers the opportunity to create tangible value for thousands of software engineers while driving sustained, company-wide impact at HP-a global technology leader and long-standing Fortune 100 company with more than 28,000 patents, over$55 billionin annual revenue, and approximately 58,000 employees worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and a customer-first mindset across the organization.

  • Attract, build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers and leaders with diverseexpertise, perspectives, and backgrounds.

  • Design, develop, and implement a modern, AI-native developer experience (DevEx) paradigm across the full software development lifecycle,leveragingAI as a foundational layer and positioning AI agents as core participants in how software is designed, written, tested, and refined.

  • DeliverDevExas a product to thousands of software engineerswithin the CTO, Software organizationas internal customers, and lead the shift from manual coding to AI-enabled design, verification, and orchestration of intelligent, automated workflows-driving step-function improvements in code quality and developer productivity while materially reducing toil and cognitive load.

  • Lead the developer platform, includingDevExinternal product management, the service catalog, self-service onboarding, golden paths, templates, API discovery, and paved-road workflows.

  • LeadDevExengineering systems, including Git platforms, CI/CD, build systems, repositories, test automation, release orchestration, deployment workflows, feature flags, and rollback tooling.

  • Lead developer productivity initiatives, including developer metrics, friction analysis, development environments, AI coding assistants, code review automation, and engineering workflow optimization.

  • Lead API governance, lifecycle management, and engineering standards, including API design standards; shared libraries, SDKs, and reusable components; dependency governance; developer documentation and reference materials; playbooks; and the inner-source and open-source program office, ensuring the platform evolves in alignment with the needs of internal business and product organizations.

  • Lead developer success, including developer support channels, migration programs, training, onboarding journeys, documentation systems, office hours, and communities of practice.

  • Lead developer advocacy through a well-defined engagement model that promotes adoption of internal tools, gathers feedback, measures satisfaction, andidentifiesand implements continuous improvement opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master'sdegree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; Ph.D. preferred.

  • Current or prior experienceoperatingat the VP level in engineering within an established technology company.

  • 15+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 8+ years in senior people leadership roles, and preferably 4+ years leading global software engineering teams serving multiple internal customers and delivering capabilities used by millions of users or supporting $100M+ businesses.

  • Demonstrated success in building high-performing, diverse engineering teams and improving organizational effectiveness.

  • Deepexpertisein developer experience, withdemonstratedsuccess deliveringDevExcapabilities at scale and driving significant improvements in developer productivity.

  • Proven ability to deliver measurable business value through software engineering excellence, operational efficiency, and speed of execution.

  • Deep technicalexpertisein distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern AI-native software development lifecycle practices.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver persuasive content for senior executive audiences.

  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a strongtrack recordof building deep, trusted relationships across organizations.

The pay range for this role is $320,000 to $350,000 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
