Job description

Job Description:
The CNC Programmer at AAON is responsible for developing and optimizing CNC programs to support the precision manufacturing of HVAC components. This role ensures efficient and accurate machining processes by translating engineering drawings and specifications into machine-readable code. The programmer collaborates closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to improve productivity, reduce waste, and maintain high-quality standards. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of CNC machining in a manufacturing environment.
The CNC Programmer creates, tests, and refines CNC programs for a variety of machines and materials used in HVAC component manufacturing. This includes selecting appropriate tooling, setting machining parameters, and troubleshooting production issues.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop and modify CNC programs using CAD/CAM software based on engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds for efficient machining operations.
  • Collaborate with machinists and engineers to optimize manufacturing processes and reduce cycle times.
  • Conduct test runs and make adjustments to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Maintain documentation for all CNC programs and setup instructions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tooling, programming, or machine performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in machining operations.
  • Train operators on new programs and best practices

Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires an Associate's degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology
  • Certification in CNC Programming or CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in CNC programming and CAD/CAM software
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Knowledge of G-code and M-code programming
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Essential Mental and Physical Functions:
This role requires technical precision, spatial reasoning, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment. The CNC Programmer must be able to focus on detailed tasks and adapt to changing production needs.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move between workstations for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity for working with tools and machine components
  • Visual acuity to inspect parts and read technical documents
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally

Work Environment:
The CNC Programmer works in both office and manufacturing floor environments at AAON's production facility. The role involves exposure to industrial equipment, noise, and temperature variations. Proper safety gear and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.
