Job description

The Valley of the Sun YMCA is honored to be among the top 50 YMCA associations in the United States, recognized for transforming our culture, vision, and operations. With 12 branches across the Valley and Northern Arizona, along with a thriving overnight camp in Prescott, we are a rapidly growing, cause-driven organization. RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SPORTS OFFICIAL:

  • Visits and/or works at sports sites as needed.
  • Officiates and instructs as needed.
  • Develops positive relationships with children and parents enrolled in programs.
  • Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Monitors care and maintenance of all program facilities and equipment with particular concern
    for the health and safety of participants and ensures repairs are made as needed.
  • Ensures attendance records, program reports and other required administrative procedures
    are completed.
  • Attending staff meetings and training courses as required.
  • Works with children of all ages.
  • Communicates effectively with members, staff, peers, volunteers, parents, and supervisor.
  • Communicates information on YMCA Sports Programs.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures including emergency procedures.
    Completes incident and accident reports, as necessary
  • Conveys basic knowledge of all program areas to members and participants.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communicationwith participants and co-workers.

REQUIREMENTS TO BEASPORTS OFFICIAL:

  • Candidates under age 16 considered with Sr. Leadership approval.
  • Current state approved First-Aid and CPR certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalency unless currently enrolled in high school.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of YMCA guidelines designated for the league.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience refereeing.
