What is the Opportunity?

From fabrication and modularization to new builds, turnaround and maintenance, Aecon Industrial leads the way in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing clients in Canada and the U.S. with vertically integrated solutions and exceptional self-perform work.

Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Document Controller is responsible for the processing, receipt, issuing (internal/external), reproduction, filing, auditing, and integrity of engineering and construction documents to ensure accuracy and timeliness for the project. The understanding and integration of contractual requirements and customer/stakeholder specifications around Document Control will be required.

Please Note:

  • This is a site-based position based in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
  • The regular shift for this role is 10 consecutive working days followed by 4 consecutive days off.
  • This is a 12-month contract position with the possibility of extension.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Receive and catalogue drawings and documentation meeting outlined project requirements.
  • Maintain project documentation according to EDMS project filing requirements.
  • Interface with project team to coordinate documentation control requirements and activities.
  • Ensure accurate information handoffs to both internal and external parties.
  • Coordinate collaboration review of internal and external documentation with engineering teams on constructability, including external stakeholders where required.
  • Interface with client document control personnel, inclusive of Aecon's subcontractors, and participate in kickoff meetings.
  • Generate reports as required by the project on status, transmittals, master document registry, and audits.
  • Interpret and implement processes, procedures, workflows, and standards.
  • Allocate project documents and drawing numbers as required per guidance of Project Management, Project Agreement, and/or client requirements.
  • Develop training, work instructions, and site plans in conjunction with the reporting Manager in efforts to continuously improve Aecon's Document Control and Information Management policy and procedures.
  • Participate in charter groups for adaptive EDMS software platforms while collaborating with other support services within Aecon.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Document Controller, or an equivalent combination of education and related industry experience.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering and industrial construction terminology and contract models is considered an asset.
  • Ability to understand and classify drawings and documentation for a multidisciplinary scope.
  • Proficient in, or willing to learn, Electronic Document Management and Handling Systems.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Aconex, Adobe, BlueBeam, ACC, and BIM.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint).
  • Effective communication and strong understanding of processes and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, including verbal and written communication skills.
