Description
We are hiring a Product Engineer to perform large, complex engineering assignments related to the creation, development and/or improvement of product designs. This role works closely with customers, industrial design, engineers, mechanical designers, manufacturing, suppliers, and quality.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience within mechanical engineering discipline
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree or certification
  • Exposure to CAD software (Creo)
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Steelcase will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and communication skills

  • Research, Innovation and Concept Analysis: Ability to research and gather information, generate creative engineering/design solutions, and evaluate the overall relative value of different concepts, ideas and designs in support of stated goals.
  • Technology/Engineering Analysis & Methodology: Ability to apply mechanical engineering principles, mechanical properties, material science, manufacturing processes and procedures, and tooling as they relate to the engineering of the product. Must also have an understanding of handling, packaging, distribution and environmental strategies as they relate to product design/material usage decisions.
  • Economic Analysis: Ability to understand/interpret product and tooling cost data, economic principles and profit/loss analysis as they relate to the engineering of the product.
  • Systems, Procedures & Standards: Ability to apply appropriate standards and protocol that govern the Steelcase design/engineering process.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to guide and/or create CAD models to document and analyze the engineering/mechanical aspects of the design and utilize other computer applications and software.
  • Business Industry Knowledge: Ability to acquire knowledge of the office furniture industry, Steelcase organization, processes, products, standards and information systems.
  • Problem Solving/Decision Making: Ability to use a variety of methods and techniques in solving technical issues.
  • Interpersonal: Ability to work with peers and management in a multi-disciplined team environment.
  • Administrative: Ability to work on multiple assignments and effectively manage time and priorities.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Engineering Design: Conceive designs, engineering/design analysis, intent and verification. Maintain technical integrity of the product by sound applications of engineering/mechanical design principles, creation of engineering/design specifications, material selection, definition of the engineering/mechanical design intent and verification activities.
  • Engineering Tools/Processes: Computer aided engineering/design modeling. Guide creation of and/or create computer models for mechanical design/engineering analysis and other uses. Use engineering process tools for engineering design and verification applications.
  • Engineering Documentation: Engineering documentation, verification and records. Create engineering/design content of documentation package and verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Project Support: Support team members and customers. Ensure that goals and objectives are met through effective involvement, contribution and coordination.
  • Quality: Comply with the Steelcase quality system. Ensure that all applicable procedures and standards are followed. Ensure quality results in all deliverables.
  • Self Development/Network: Define and implement professional development plan with management. Self development activities may include, but are not limited to, participation in professional organization(s), networking, educational and certification courses.
  • Influencing Others: Supervise the tasks of engineers/mechanical designers and lead all technical aspects of a project. Positively influence peers.
  • Functional Support/Special Assignments: Support department and corporation goals. Ensure that goals and objectives are met through effective involvement and contribution.
  • Effectively exercise interpersonal skills. Coach, mentor and lead other engineers and mechanical designers in the use of mechanical engineering/mechanical design principles, computer-aided design, and the completion of engineering/mechanical design activities.

The starting annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Steelcase considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
