What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DevOps Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software development, IT operations, automation, and CI/CD practices, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure, and configuration management systems like Ansible or Chef is highly valued, along with relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer). Strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for bridging development and operations teams. These skills and qualities are important for ensuring efficient software delivery, system reliability, and seamless collaboration across the software development lifecycle.

How do DevOps Engineers typically collaborate with development and operations teams on a daily basis?

DevOps Engineers act as a bridge between development and operations teams by automating workflows, facilitating communication, and ensuring smooth software deployments. On a daily basis, they work closely with developers to integrate code changes, manage CI/CD pipelines, and troubleshoot build or deployment issues. They also collaborate with IT operations to monitor system performance, address infrastructure concerns, and implement security best practices. This collaborative approach helps ensure rapid delivery of reliable software while minimizing downtime.

What are DevOps Engineers?

DevOps Engineers are IT professionals who bridge the gap between software development and operations. They work to automate and streamline the software delivery process by using tools and practices that enable continuous integration, continuous delivery, and quick deployment. Their responsibilities include configuring infrastructure, monitoring systems, managing CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring reliable releases. DevOps Engineers often collaborate with developers, QA, and IT staff to ensure consistent and efficient workflows. Their goal is to improve collaboration, increase deployment speed, and maintain system reliability.

Job description

Nasdaq eVestment is the leading institutional investment data and analytics platform-connecting asset managers, consultants, and asset owners through a centralized ecosystem of trusted intelligence and powering $90T+ in smarter, faster investment decisions through proprietary data and AI/MLdriven workflows.
As a Senior Applied AI Specialist reporting to VP, Head of eVestment Enterprise Revenue, you'll play a critical role in helping Nasdaq's largest institutional clients design, integrate, and deploy production-ready AI solutions powered by eVestment data. You'll serve as a trusted technical advisor, translating AI ambition into measurable business value for global asset managers, consultants, and asset owners.
You'll thrive in this position if you're collaborative, technically credible, and bring a passion for solving complex problems in a fast-paced, high-impact environment where AI is reshaping how $90T+ in investment decisions are made.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end technical delivery for enterprise AI engagements, from discovery and architecture through production deployment and optimization.
  • Translate client workflows and business objectives into scalable, enterprise-ready AI/ML architectures using Nasdaq eVestment data.
  • Serve as the senior technical advisor guiding clients through system design, model integration, data pipelines, and deployment strategies.
  • Partner with client engineering, data, security, and compliance teams to navigate enterprise requirements and remove delivery blockers.
  • Drive adoption and expansion by collaborating with Sales and Client Success to deepen relationships and identify new AI use cases.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years in a technical, client-facing role such as Solutions Architect, Data Scientist, or Technical Account Manager.
  • Hands-on experience delivering AI, ML, or LLM-based systems into enterprise production environments, ideally in financial services or regulated industries.
  • Strong Python proficiency with experience building and supporting production-grade AI systems.
  • Familiarity with AI data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, or Redshift, and LLM ecosystems including OpenAI and Anthropic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant cloud, data, or AI certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, Databricks).
  • Experience with data modeling, analytics architectures, and warehouse design patterns.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, security, ethics, and responsible AI deployment.

This position will be located in Atlanta, Dallas or Boston and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 3 days a week in-office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
