What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with coding languages (such as Python, Java, or C++), version control systems like Git, and knowledge of software development methodologies are typically required. Excellent teamwork, communication, and adaptability distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality software development that meets user needs and adapts to technological changes.

What are some common challenges software engineers face when collaborating on large development teams?

Software engineers working on large teams often encounter challenges with communication, code integration, and maintaining consistent coding standards. Coordinating across multiple developers can lead to merge conflicts and misunderstandings about project requirements or priorities. Adopting tools like version control systems, regular code reviews, and clear documentation helps mitigate these issues. Building strong collaboration skills and proactively seeking clarification are key to ensuring smooth teamwork and project success.

What are Software Engineers?

Software Engineers are professionals who design, develop, test, and maintain computer software and systems. They use programming languages, engineering principles, and problem-solving skills to build applications, websites, or software solutions that meet specific needs. Software Engineers may work in a variety of industries, such as technology, finance, healthcare, or entertainment, collaborating with other team members to deliver functional and reliable software. Their role often involves analyzing user requirements, writing code, debugging errors, and continually improving software performance.

The role requires strong technical judgment, comfort operating in ambiguous environments, and the ability to resolve complex issues independently. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with vending systems, Cribmaster software, Signifi hardware, and related backend and networking configurations, along with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Lead setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of badge reader systems, authentication methods, and access control configurations.
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot networking equipment and connectivity to support customer roster management, reporting, and system integrations.
  • Own end-to-end pre-deployment testing and quality validation, ensuring machines are fully functional, compliant, and deployment-ready.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation of configuration standards, exceptions, and build outputs; develop and enhance vending machine reporting.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for configuration issues; partner with operations and customer teams to resolve root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to process improvements, tooling enhancements, and standardization efforts to improve throughput, quality, and scalability.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentoring to L2 team members, supporting skill development and knowledge transfer.

What You Will Need to Succeed
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in vending systems, technical configuration, warehouse automation, or a related technical operations role
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple complex configurations simultaneously while meeting quality and throughput targets
  • Strong attention to detail combined with sound technical judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency with backend configuration systems and technical troubleshooting

  • Background in warehouse operations, supply chain automation, or technical support in enterprise environments
  • Experience designing and optimizing planograms and inventory strategies
  • Demonstrated experience driving process improvements, standardization, or operational scaling initiatives

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of equipment and packages.
  • Ability to safely operate carts, pallet jacks, and related warehouse equipment.

Compensation
Estimated Pay Range: 26.00 - 32.00
