Full Job Description: Accounting Manager

Salary/Compensation:Business Grade 9 | BG-9

Tulsa Public Schools existing salary schedules provide career increment adjustments based on education/experience and/or years of creditable service. Position Summary: The Accounting Manager oversees and supports the districts accountingoperations, including general ledger management, accounts payable, payroll accounting, fixedasset accounting, bond accounting, and financial reporting.
Under the guidance of the Controller, this role ensures accurate general ledger coding andreporting in line with the State of Oklahoma Cost Accounting System (OCAS) requirements. TheAccounting Manager plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent financialinformation, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting compliance with Board policies,district business practices, state and federal regulations, and generally accepted accountingprinciples (GAAP).

Key Functions:

Administers accounting procedures across the District and ensures compliance withBoard policy and state and federal reporting requirements
Supervises accounting operations and direct reports, including general ledger activities,journal entries, account reconciliations, expenditures, encumbrances, and requisitions
Manages month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and reclassification entries,and maintains financial internal controls
Leads year-end audit preparation, OCAS reporting, and tax filings (1099s and 1042s)
Coordinates financial reporting systems, works with ERP vendors to resolve issues, andvalidates Board of Education reporting for encumbrances and expenditures
Provides payroll accounting backup and support
Oversees bond fund tracking, encumbering, expensing, and reporting
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or a combination ofeducation and equivalent work experience

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory accounting experience, or equivalent work
experience in a financial, analytical, or accounting field

Licenses and Certifications:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work non-standard hours during peak periods such as month-end close, auditpreparation, and year-end reporting
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and ability tomeet deadlines
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently
Ability to analyze financial data and identify issues and solutions
Ability to work proactively and anticipate risks or needs
Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships across departments
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
Commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth
