Job Description

Structural Engineer /Bridge Inspection Team Leader in our Transportation Division of our Pennsylvania offices.

Sign on and relocation bonus available.


This position offers a great career opportunity for a structural engineer with bi-annual and NBIS bridge inspection experience to be involved with bridge and culvert projects in all stages. This position will lead a team to inspect and identify needed maintenance and improvements, prepare reports and load ratings, assist in developing repair and rehabilitation strategies, and work with owner and contractor to preserve or replace the structure. This is a great role to become a subject matter expert in our growing inspection team and take on more leadership responsibilities. Not to mention a great mix of office and field work!

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with a full understanding of bridge inspection/engineering industry practices and have a strong capability of solving a wide range of bridge engineering design, analysis, and inspection challenges. This opportunity entails being responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, leading bridge inspection teams, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects.

In this role, the team leader will coordinate with equipment suppliers and other agencies to facilitate bridge inspections. The candidate will be responsible for high-quality project delivery for complex and non-complex bridge and culvert projects including replacements, rehabilitations, and preservations.

Your Primary Responsibilities will be:

  • Stay current with industry standards, codes, and best practices related to bridge inspection and maintenance.

  • Plan, perform, and supervise bridge inspections in accordance with current NBIS standards and safety guidelines

  • Deliver comprehensive bridge inspection reports that technically support the structure's existing condition using client specific templates, forms and electronic data collect systems

  • Have a good working knowledge of engineering principles and how they apply including ability to identify structural and hazardous issues and provide recommendations

  • Supervise and mentor bridge inspection team members

  • Work in a team to perform design calculations, estimates, specifications and bid documents for various bridge and culvert rehabilitation/replacement projects

  • Prepare bridge load rating calculations and reports using various analysis software.

  • Review structural shop drawings, submittals and RFIs as well as provide field construction oversight

  • Monitoring of project budgets and schedules and assist with proposal development

  • Attend meetings and interact with clients, consultants, vendors

Your Qualifications and Skills needed for this position are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year university

  • Minimum 3 plus years' experience with a focus on bridge inspections

  • Completion of FHWA-NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges) or NHI #130056 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers).

  • Experience with structural engineering design and/or bridge load ratings with the use of analysis software

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite products

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team

  • Record of safe working habits

  • Physical able to perform field workyear-roundin adverse weather conditions and work around bridges, roads, rail, water, and tunnels

  • Physical able to carry ladders and gear, work at heights, and work in water with waders

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Willingness to travel throughout the State of New Jersey

  • Must have a vehicle or ability to obtain a vehicle

  • A current and valid Class D Motor Vehicles Operator's license

  • Experience Delivering reports in DOT Bridge Inspection Management Systems

  • Willingness to travel outside of Pennsylvania on occasion

Compensation Range:

$79,979.92 - $91,405.62
