Job description

DIRECTV is one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, delivering premium content and cutting-edge streaming solutions to millions of customers across the country. As we continue to evolve our super aggregation strategy, we are investing in world-class talent to drive our next chapter of growth.

The Senior Director, SVODs Product Marketing is a critical strategic leadership role within DIRECTV's Revenue Marketing organization. This position is accountable for advancing DIRECTV's enterprise super aggregation strategy by owning the end-to-end development, execution, and optimization of the Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) portfolio across all DIRECTV platforms.

This leader is responsible for multi-million-dollar annual revenue and serves as the primary driver of SVOD marketing strategy - from the ideation of go-to-market approaches to the execution of campaigns that acquire, retain, and grow DIRECTV's subscriber base. The Senior Director leads and develops a dedicated SVOD marketing team, manages all SVOD partner relationships, and collaborates closely with cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Finance, Analytics, and Content to ensure the SVOD portfolio delivers against business objectives.

This role requires a strategic, analytically rigorous, and executive-ready leader with deep expertise in subscription-based businesses, streaming, and digital media. The ideal candidate combines a strong marketing background with the ability to translate complex data and market dynamics into compelling strategies and executive-level narratives.

Here's what you'll do:

Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Ownership

  • Own and drive the end-to-end SVOD strategy across all DIRECTV platforms, ensuring alignment with DIRECTV's enterprise super aggregation vision.
  • Set annual and multi-year goals for the SVOD portfolio; develop and execute strategic plans to achieve those goals.
  • Monitor portfolio performance continuously, leveraging data and analytics to identify trends, optimize strategy, and inform business decisions.
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert on the SVOD landscape, competitive positioning, and subscriber behavior.

Marketing Strategy & Execution

  • Lead the SVOD team in developing and executing integrated marketing strategies across all major marketing channels and business lines.
  • Develop and own compelling value propositions, messaging frameworks, and competitive positioning to drive SVOD subscriber acquisition and retention.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams - including Product, Analytics, Digital, Creative, and Brand - to ensure cohesive and effective marketing execution.
  • Identify customer friction points and develop proactive strategies and campaigns to reduce churn and improve customer satisfaction (NPS).
  • Analyze campaign performance data to understand results, inform future strategies, and continuously optimize marketing effectiveness.

Revenue & Financial Accountability

  • Own and be accountable for multi-million-dollar annual SVOD revenue performance.
  • Partner with Finance to develop accurate forecasts, manage budgets, and ensure the SVOD portfolio meets or exceeds revenue targets.
  • Evaluate business process changes and lead implementation across the organization to drive revenue growth and operational efficiency.

Partner Relationship Management

  • Manage all SVOD partner relationships, serving as DIRECTV's primary point of contact for SVOD content and distribution partners.
  • Negotiate and collaborate with partners to develop joint marketing programs, promotional initiatives, and co-marketing strategies.
  • Build and sustain strong, productive relationships that advance DIRECTV's content aggregation strategy.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing SVOD marketing team, setting clear expectations and driving accountability.
  • Direct staffing, planning, and budgeting for the SVOD function; recommend and implement organizational and methodological changes to maximize team effectiveness.
  • Cultivate an inclusive, collaborative team culture that rewards innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Determine future talent needs and build a pipeline of capable, growth-oriented team members.

Executive Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Regularly present SVOD strategy, performance results, and recommendations to senior leadership and executive audiences.
  • Participate with other senior leaders to establish strategic plans and organizational objectives.
  • Synthesize complex data and market intelligence into clear, executive-ready narratives and recommendations.

What you'll need to be successful:

Required Experience

  • 7 - 10 years of progressive experience in marketing, product marketing, or a related discipline - ideally with significant exposure to subscription-based businesses.
  • 4 - 10 years of direct people management experience (managing 2 or more direct reports).
  • Demonstrated expertise in streaming, digital media, or entertainment marketing.
  • Proven track record of owning and delivering against significant revenue goals ($100M+).
  • Experience managing external partner relationships, including negotiation and co-marketing execution.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field required.
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred (or equivalent years of additional experience).

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep strategic marketing expertise, with the ability to develop and own long-range marketing strategy for a major product portfolio.
  • Strong analytical capabilities; ability to leverage performance data, market insights, and financial metrics to drive decisions and optimize outcomes.
  • Expert in competitive analysis, value proposition development, and consumer positioning within a streaming or subscription context.
  • Highly polished executive communication skills; comfortable presenting complex strategies and results to C-suite and senior leadership audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders across a matrixed organization.
  • Strong operational acumen; ability to manage budgets, prioritize initiatives, and drive organizational effectiveness.
  • Deep familiarity with the streaming and SVOD competitive landscape, including key players, market dynamics, and consumer behavior trends.
  • Experience with customer acquisition and retention marketing, including churn reduction strategies and NPS improvement programs.

Leadership Attributes

  • Visionary and decisive; able to set a clear strategic direction and inspire a team to execute against ambitious goals.
  • Collaborative and influential, with a track record of building strong partnerships internally and externally.
  • Data-driven and intellectually curious; continuously seeks to understand performance and improve results.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and leading through change in a dynamic, fast-evolving industry.
