Job description

Dispatcher — Lead Real-Time Trucking Operations!

SUMMARY

As a Dispatcher at Armstrong, you will be the primary point-of-contact for company and contract drivers, playing a crucial role in on-time deliveries and customer satisfaction. We’re seeking an experienced truck dispatcher with a strong background in commercial and household goods, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to multitask and perform under pressure. If you take pride in turning complex schedules into smooth, efficient routes, this is the role for you.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE WORKING HERE

  • Be at the center of daily operations — your decisions directly impact our drivers, customers, and business performance.

  • Work with experienced planners and a collaborative operations team that values clear communication and continuous improvement.

  • Opportunities to grow into senior operations, safety, or planning roles.

  • Use industry-standard TMS tools and strengthen your DOT/compliance expertise on the job.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with Planners to develop efficient driver routes and schedules for commercial and household goods.

  • Dispatch and coordinate company and contract drivers in real time; offer routing options to maximize productivity and ontime performance.

  • Locate and assign available agents and labor resources for incoming shipments and special-handling requests.

  • Communicate with customers and coordinators to confirm pickup/delivery details, special requirements, and service expectations.

  • Prepare and maintain dispatch documentation, and generate freight bills and invoices accurately and on time.

  • Maintain detailed logs of dispatched calls, route changes, arrivals, pickups, and deliveries.

  • Monitor truck repairs and maintenance schedules; log customer shipping schedules and record complaints for follow-up.

  • Work with the Agency Safety Rep to ensure driver compliance with DOT regulations, company safety policies, and accurate driver logs.

  • Proactively troubleshoot delays, breakdowns, or service exceptions and escalate when necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Transportation/Logistics preferred.

  • 2–3+ years of truck dispatch experience, ideally with both commercial and household goods.

  • Demonstrated ability to create efficient routes, schedule drivers, and manage multiple operations simultaneously.

  • Strong customer service experience and proven ability to generate accurate freight bills and invoices.

  • Experience with Transportation Management Software (TMS) and GPS/tracking systems.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Solid working knowledge of DOT regulations, safety requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills; strong time-management and prioritization abilities.

  • Flexible availability for rotating shifts, on-call periods, or after-hours coordination as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.

  • Occasionally lift office supplies up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; occasionally bend, stoop, and reach.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive pay.

  • Comprehensive benefits package: medical, dental, vision (customize per location).

  • Paid time off, and paid holidays

  • Career development opportunities and a clear path for advancement.

  • Supportive, safety-first culture that values reliability, teamwork, and employee growth.

Armstrong is an Equal Opportunity Employer — we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
