What Does a Microsoft BI Developer Do?
Microsoft BI (business intelligence) software is a suite of tools that lets businesses create expansive reports, identify and isolate data, and direct data through IT systems. As a Microsoft BI developer, you work to implement Microsoft BI into applications. Your responsibilities include supporting and maintaining data analytics platforms, conducting analyses, developing and executing database queries, and creating reports and visualizations for requested projects. You develop, deploy, and design reporting tools and other BI solutions, test units and perform troubleshooting, create a recovery plan for data, and maintain the software. Other duties include creating the tools that store data and evaluating and improving existing BI systems.
How to Become a Microsoft BI Developer
The minimum qualifications to become a Microsoft BI developer include a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related field. Having a background in data mining or data warehouse design is beneficial for this position. Having strong knowledge of online analytical processing, database management systems, and ETL framework is helpful. Having strong communication skills and being familiar with various BI technologies, such as Oracle BI or Microsoft Power BI, is ideal. Employers may prefer applicants with knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL queries, and SQL Server Integration Services.
