What We Look For In a ACT Math Tutor
  • Advanced Math Content Mastery: Deep knowledge of pre-algebra (fractions, decimals, percentages), elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry (SOH-CAH-TOA, unit circle, identities). Ability to explain 60 questions across all topics within 60-minute time limit, calculator strategies, and formula recall for efficient problem-solving.
  • Strategic Problem-Solving & Speed: Skilled at teaching rapid solution identification, backsolving techniques, and when to skip difficult questions. Guides students through multi-step word problems, geometry proofs, graphing functions, and trigonometric applications. Emphasizes calculator efficiency, estimation skills, and recognizing high-frequency question types to maximize speed and accuracy.
  • Test Strategy & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with ACT Math progression (easier early questions, harder later questions) and common pitfalls including misreading problems and calculation errors. Adapts instruction through timed drills, formula sheet creation, and targeted practice on weak areas (geometry, trig). Requires minimum ACT Math score of 31 and proven methods for score improvement.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
