Position Information
Job Summary:
The Data Analyst, under general supervision, assist with the management, cleaning, integration, and analysis of public health and nutrition research data from multiple sources. Support statistical analyses, data collection systems, and reporting activities by preparing datasets, maintaining data integrity, and documenting analytical methods and findings. Completes reports and summaries for management and users including project status reports, problem reports, and progress summaries.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the design, implementation, and management of data analysis workflows for public health and nutrition research projects under the guidance of senior team members.
Support the review and documentation of data structures to facilitate the achievement of broader research objectives.
Provide assistance with statistical analyses by implementing established models and methodologies as directed, including preparing data for analysis by senior statisticians or researchers.
Work with various types of research data (e.g., dietary intake, accelerometry, self-reported outcomes) by assisting in organization, formatting, and preliminary evaluation.
Support the preparation of statistical analysis plans by conducting basic calculations and preliminary data reviews, such as assisting with power or sample size estimations.
Help maintain data collection systems by supporting data entry, assisting with programming forms, and conducting routine data cleaning procedures to ensure integrity and accuracy of data.
Assist in acquiring, cleaning, merging, and managing research data from local, state, and national secondary data sources under supervision.
Screen data for potential issues and assist in documenting and making routine corrections as needed.
Document data management and basic analysis procedures clearly and maintain well-organized records of processing steps.
Support the documentation of statistical approaches and the preparation of summary findings for review by senior staff.
Assist in drafting reports, organizing tables and figures, and assembling written descriptions of methods and results for manuscripts and presentations.
Provide technical and administrative support to researchers and team members, such as preparing datasets for sharing and ensuring compliance with data sharing requirements, as directed.
Assist in gathering background information and assembling materials for grant proposals to support research initiatives.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support research and administrative activities.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, nutrition, statistics, clinical research) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 2 years of professional experience in data collection and analysis, including direct experience with statistical modeling and research datasets.
Proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata, SAS), data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and database applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with faculty and staff.
Detail oriented and ability to organize tasks and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or Ph.D. in nutrition epidemiology or related field (e.g., public health, nutrition, statistics, or relevant education and experience meeting job expectations).
Experience working with and accessing local, state and national data sets (e.g., Texas health data, NHANES, WHI, Framingham Heart Study, etc.).
Experience developing valid, reliable composite scoring and screening instruments (e.g., Life's Simple 7; dietary screeners; etc.).
Knowledge and understanding of the mission and role of the Land Grant University System, including community-campus partnership and the Extension system.
