Position Description

Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Upper School Math Teacher with responsibilities to begin in August 2026.

The individual selected for this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Teach four to five sections that may include Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and/or Calculus

  • Serve as a grade-level advisor to roughly 10 students; prepared to learn and implement advisory curriculum

  • Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all upper school faculty members

  • Collaborate with grade-level and departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development

  • Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in-person conferences

  • Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes and integration of iPads and laptops in classroom activities

  • Hold students accountable for the Academy’s standards of behavior

  • Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well-being

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics education or a closely related field

  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle or high school, preferably in mathematics

  • Passion for teaching high school students

  • Enthusiasm for the study of math concepts

  • Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in mathematical instruction at the high school level

  • Leadership qualities to inspire, motivate and develop students

  • A reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning

  • Enthusiasm, a positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to lead or direct extracurricular activity or coach interscholastic sport if desired

  • Classroom environment
