Position Overview:
Seeking a Java Developer to support application development and production support activities within a manufacturing environment. This role will focus heavily on application support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and enhancements across existing and legacy applications.
The ideal candidate will be an independent problem solver who can investigate issues, understand unfamiliar code, troubleshoot application/database problems, and work effectively with limited documentation.
This is a support-heavy role, with an approximate 80% application support / 20% development split.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide production support for business-critical applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues across legacy and existing systems.
- Analyze application code, business logic, and database interactions to identify root causes.
- Develop application fixes, enhancements, and improvements resulting from support activities.
- Work closely with business users to understand reported issues and determine appropriate solutions.
- Investigate whether issues originate from application logic, database behavior, infrastructure, or other systems.
- Support and maintain legacy applications with limited documentation.
- Independently research and understand unfamiliar code and application functionality.
- Collaborate with technical teams and escalate issues when appropriate.
- Participate in application vulnerability remediation and secure coding activities.
- Support applications throughout their production lifecycle.
- Participate in a 24/7/365 on-call rotation approximately once every four weeks, Monday-to-Monday, including nights and weekends.
Required Technical Skills
- 3+ years of hands-on Java development experience
- Strong experience with Java 8, preferably in a production environment
- Full-stack Java development experience
- Hands-on experience with Spring MVC
- Strong SQL skills
- Hands-on Oracle database experience
- Production/application support experience
- Experience troubleshooting legacy applications
- Ability to independently analyze code and identify root causes
- Experience working with application/database interactions

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate:
- Has approximately 3–7 years of Java experience
- Has recent, hands-on Java 8 production experience
- Is comfortable supporting and troubleshooting legacy applications
- Can work independently with limited documentation and guidance
- Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Can understand business requirements and trace issues through application code
- Is comfortable working in a less-structured environment
- Can work across both backend and frontend/application logic
- Has strong production support and incident troubleshooting experience
- Is comfortable communicating directly with business users
- Is willing to participate in the required on-call rotation
Work Environment
The position supports applications used within a manufacturing/factory environment and involves working with a combination of modernized and legacy systems.
The team operates in a less formal, waterfall-oriented environment rather than a traditional Agile/Scrum model. Candidates should be comfortable working with evolving requirements and limited documentation.
