What is social planning?

Social planning is a process that involves identifying community needs and developing strategies and programs to address social issues such as housing, health, education, and inclusivity. Social planners work with governments, non-profits, and community groups to analyze data, consult stakeholders, and create policies that improve quality of life. Their work often includes advocating for marginalized populations and ensuring that resources are allocated equitably to support community well-being.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social planner?

To thrive as a Social Planner, you typically need a background in urban planning, sociology, or social work, supported by relevant degrees or certifications. Familiarity with GIS software, community assessment tools, and data analysis platforms is commonly required. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills help build consensus and address diverse community needs. These skills ensure effective planning and implementation of programs that promote social well-being and equitable community development.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in social planning, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in social planning often encounter challenges such as balancing the diverse needs of community stakeholders, navigating regulatory requirements, and managing limited resources. Effective communication and stakeholder engagement are crucial for building consensus and ensuring that project outcomes reflect community priorities. Staying current with best practices and collaborating closely with other departments, such as urban planning and public health, can help address these challenges and lead to more successful, sustainable programs.

JOB OVERVIEW:
We're looking for an ambitious, proactive and entrepreneurial Social Media Manager to lead the strategy and storytelling behind @the.team.baseball, the social channel for THEโ€ข TEAM's Baseball Talent Representation division. This role will oversee social content highlighting the Baseball division's athletes, partnerships and cross-disciplinary work across sports and marketing.
This channel represents a key area of the business, so you'll be expected to quickly build a deep understanding of the Baseball division's talent and brand partners. You'll develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, contribute to team culture and execute thoughtful, compelling content strategies that connect with audiences and communities across existing and emerging platforms.
THEโ€ข TEAM operates in a fast-paced environment, so the ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running, take ownership of their work and manage the role independently. This person should be comfortable identifying and creating content opportunities even when assets are limited, while also collaborating effectively with creative teams and stakeholders.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Tell THEโ€ข TEAM's Baseball story (MLB, MiLB, NIL and more) across social media, maintaining a distinctive and consistent voice while working with agents, talent, brands and properties.
  • Own the day-to-day management of THEโ€ข TEAM's baseball social channels and content, including strategy, editorial planning, copywriting, scheduling, publishing, quality assurance and stakeholder approvals.
  • Develop and execute content calendars aligned with athlete moments, events, partnerships and broader business priorities.
  • Proactively identify and develop content opportunities, including when existing assets or planned content are not readily available.
  • Translate athlete stories, cultural moments and brand initiatives into compelling, platform-native content across formats, including short-form video, carousels and real-time coverage.
  • Brief and collaborate with creative teams, managing projects from concept through delivery, including timelines, feedback, approvals and final assets.
  • Lead social planning for priority baseball content, including campaign approaches, coverage plans, content needs and publishing recommendations.
  • Capture, edit and publish content independently when needed, particularly during live events and fast-moving cultural moments.
  • Manage community engagement and social listening, identifying timely opportunities while escalating sensitive, client-related or reputational issues when appropriate.
  • Monitor relevant events, competitors and industry conversations, including during priority weekend moments, to identify timely content and engagement opportunities.
  • Balance stakeholder and client needs with THEโ€ข TEAM's brand strategy, editorial standards and business objectives.
  • Execute strategies to grow channel audiences, increase reach and strengthen engagement across baseball content.
  • Track channel and content performance, produce recurring reports and use insights and testing to optimize strategy, audience growth and engagement.
  • Partner with Corporate Communications and cross-functional stakeholders to uphold THEโ€ข TEAM's broader brand, marketing and communications strategy.
  • Apply strong editorial judgment and maintain brand safety, confidentiality and reputational risk standards across all social activity.
  • Travel onsite for key baseball moments to create timely, integrated content with athletes, events, teams and clients.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
  • 2-4 years of experience managing social media channels, including content planning, copywriting, publishing, community management and performance reporting. Sports experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the baseball landscape, including relevant athletes, events, governing bodies and cultural communities.
  • Deep knowledge of the baseball culture, including MLB, MiLB, NIL and other relevant disciplines.
  • Expertise across major social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X and Facebook, with an understanding of emerging platforms and formats.
  • Strong editorial instincts, flawless spelling and grammar, and the ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, solve problems and move work forward with limited direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of a function, manage priorities independently and serve as a confident social media lead for internal stakeholders.
  • Experience creating content on the go and covering live events, including video capture, editing and production.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, or comparable photo and video editing tools. Advanced proficiency is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with athletes, talent, agents, clients and senior internal or external stakeholders.
  • Strong community management skills and an understanding of how to build meaningful audience engagement.
  • Ability to interpret platform and channel data and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Familiarity with native analytics and social media tools such as Brandwatch, Sprinklr or comparable platforms.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience managing calendars, creative workflows, stakeholder feedback and approvals.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and strict deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, diplomacy and the ability to anticipate and escalate potential issues.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on the live-event calendar.
  • Based in Los Angeles, California, with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
