How much do art insurance jobs pay per year?
What does an art insurance professional do?
An Art Insurance job involves assessing, underwriting, and managing insurance policies for art collections, galleries, museums, and private collectors. Professionals in this field evaluate the value and risk of artworks, determine appropriate coverage, and handle claims in cases of damage, theft, or loss. They work closely with appraisers, conservators, and legal experts to ensure proper protection of valuable pieces. Strong knowledge of art history, market trends, and insurance regulations is essential for success in this role.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in art insurance?
To thrive in Art Insurance, you need a deep understanding of fine art valuation, insurance underwriting, and risk assessment, often supported by a degree in art history, finance, or insurance-related fields. Familiarity with insurance policy management systems, risk analysis software, and industry certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) is commonly required. Outstanding attention to detail, negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with artists, collectors, and galleries set top candidates apart. These competencies are vital for accurately assessing risk, crafting effective policies, and ensuring client satisfaction in a specialized and high-value market.
What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in art insurance?
Professionals in art insurance often encounter the challenge of accurately valuing unique or rare pieces, which requires close collaboration with appraisers and art experts. Navigating complex claims processes, especially in cases of damage or theft, demands careful documentation and analytical skills. Additionally, staying current with global art market trends and changing regulations is essential for providing reliable coverage. Despite these challenges, the role offers opportunities to engage deeply with the art world and work closely with a diverse clientele, making it both dynamic and rewarding.

Job description
The Princeton University Art Museum welcomes applications for the role of Registrar.
The Registrar has primary responsibility for managing the logistical arrangements for the Art Museum's robust schedule of exhibitions. The Registrar is the senior member of a team of two registrars responsible for managing the Museum's active program of outgoing loans from its collection to museums and cultural institutions. The Registrar reports to the Chief Registrar, who reports to the Sr. Associate Director for Collections and Exhibitions. The Registrar mentors the Associate Registrar and provides guidance and training to them as appropriate.
About the Museum:
With a collecting history that dates back to 1755, the Princeton University Art Museum is one of the leading university art museums in the country, featuring collections that have grown to include over 117,000 works of art, ranging from ancient to contemporary pieces and spanning the globe. The bold and welcoming new Princeton University Art Museum is open daily at the heart of Princeton's campus. Admission is free to all. The Museum also operates Art@Bainbridge, a gallery project at 158 Nassau Street; two Museum Stores; and Mosaic restaurant.
