Job description

Job Posting: High School Yearbook Advisorย 

Cooperstown Central School District is seeking a motivated, organized, and creative Yearbook Advisor to lead high school students in the production of the annual yearbook. This role includes overseeing all aspects of planning, design, editing, production, and distribution of the yearbook while mentoring students and promoting collaboration and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:ย 

Organizational Duties
Spring:

ย 
  • Select student editors in areas such as advertising, layout, copy, photography, and chief editor, as well as a treasurer.

  • Organize and assign staff roles and responsibilities.

  • Survey the Junior Class for input on Senior pages.

  • Accompany editors to an organizational workshop with Jostens.

  • Coordinate the senior portrait schedule.

  • Plan and organize the summer yearbook workshop.

  • Arrange a school assembly for the yearbook dedication.

  • Oversee distribution activities for yearbooks.

Fall/Winter:

ย 
  • Supervise the layout and content development of the yearbook.

  • Proofread all pages for layout, text, and image accuracy prior to submission for each of the four major deadlines.

  • Lead regular yearbook staff meetings for planning, updates, and progress review.

Technical Duties:

ย 
  • Coordinate and manage the overall yearbook layout and page design.

  • Supervise student-created artwork and photography.

  • Assist with candid photography during school hours.

  • Support the financial assistant with the advertising campaign, ad layout, and yearbook sales.

Qualifications:ย 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Experience in graphic design, digital layout, photography, or yearbook production preferred.

  • Ability to mentor and guide students in editorial, creative, and leadership roles.

  • Familiarity with yearbook publishing software (e.g., Jostens, Adobe InDesign) is a plus.

  • Strong communication and proofreading skills.

  • Ability to manage deadlines and oversee a publication from planning through final production.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some after-school and summer workshop time.

  • Prior teaching or advising experience in a school setting preferred but not required.
