Job Description:

ENT and Allergy Associates (ENTA), one of the nation's largest ENT, Allergy, and Audiology medical practices, is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant Floater for our Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island office locations. Offices included are Brooklyn Heights, Dyker Heights, Staten Island, Williamsburg, Woodbridge and Old Bridge

Note: A Floater can cross cover other clinical offices when needed.

Hourly: $23/hr

The Medical Assistant floater plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to medical professionals within our practice. The Medical Assistant serves as the primary point of contact for all clinical care-related inquiries, issues, and concerns, excluding allergy-related matters.

The Medical Assistant floater is responsible for assisting doctors during patient examinations, office surgical procedures and testing as well as maintaining exam room cleanliness and supplies, managing medications and hazardous wastes, and providing administrative support. Additionally, this role involves interacting with patients, scheduling follow-up appointments, handling medication prescriptions, and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.

The Medical Assistant floater must demonstrate empathy, attention to detail, strong communication skills, adaptability, professionalism, teamwork, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to ongoing learning

Essential responsibilities Include but are not limited to the following:

Patient Care

  • Greet patients warmly and ensure their comfort during their visit.
  • Assist with patient intake, including recording vital signs, updating medical history, and verifying insurance information.
  • Prepare patients for examination by physicians, anticipating their needs, ensuring rooms are clean, stocked, and organized.

Administrative Support

  • Utilize operating system to manage patient records and appointments.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring all necessary information is entered correctly.
  • Enter patient histories and medications into charts, ensuring allergies are prominently displayed.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, following up on test results, and managing patient inquiries. May give results over the phone at the physician's discretion.

Medical Assistance

  • Maintain patient flow in exam rooms, explain tests and procedures to patients, and inform doctors of schedule delays.
  • Keep exam rooms clean and properly stocked, maintaining a sterile environment for patient care.
  • Maintain control over hazardous wastes, perform routine equipment maintenance, and manage medical equipment.
  • Checks medications for expiration dates and orders replacements when needed.
  • Assist with office surgical procedures, post-operative care, and testing under medical direction.
  • Pre-certifies all necessary procedures (CT Scans, MRI's and office procedures) with the appropriate insurance company verifying eligibility, deductibles, copays, coverage of service with precertification numbers to be used for billing purposes, prior to the services rendered.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, colleagues, and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.
  • Assist training new hire Medical Assistants

Travel Requirements

  • Travels to all locations within the specified region
  • On occasion, you may also be required to assist with covering offices outside of your normal coverage area
  • During a transition/merger may be asked to travel to locations outside of the specified region

Job Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • Experience with NextGen EMR preferred
  • Strong patient service skills with a commitment to delivering a positive patient experience

Education / Certification Requirements:
Completion of a Medical Assistant program or certification such as CMA or RMA. Alternatively, candidates with any of the following qualifications will be considered:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
  • Five (5) years of continuous experience working as a Medical Assistant
