This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Instructor intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing and determined while ensuring quality programming that supports member connection. Engagement is the KEY to our group exercise programming.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess excellent teaching and communications skills
• Have 6 months experience leading/instructing a fitness class or program
• Be certified in CPR First Aid within 3 months of hire
• Preferred: Group Exercise Certification/ National Accredited Personal Training Certification
• Excellent communication and computer skills preferred
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
• The ability to instruct members with multiple fitness levels
• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Be self-motivated, able to make decisions and work independently
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Uphold the Mission of the YMCA at all times
• Provide courteous, prompt and sincere attention to members, guests, participants and staff.
• Answers inquiries and provides information on YMCA membership and programs.
• Develops positive relationships with participants providing motivational support and guidance.
• Acts as a "connector" for new members giving them guidance in the group exercise classes.
• Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Continues ongoing learning through trainings and certifications as offered by the YMCA.
• Educates members on sound fitness principles.
• Teaches to the description listed on the schedule and starts and ends class on time.
• Engage members by calling them by name, introducing to others, and makes class fun.
• Make YMCA announcements to keep participants aware of the other offerings in the YMCA.
• Excellent customer service and listen-first skills
• Ability to maintain a high level of personal fitness and motivation for wellness
• Able to lead a group in exercise with rhythm, encouragement, positivity and with poise
• Modifications offered for all levels of fitness through proper strength, flexibility and core
• Achieve credibility by upholding high personal standards for fitness and programming, and exemplary communication with community members regarding YMCA programming
• Ensure a safe environment free from clutter, being aware of weather conditions.
• Ensure that the rules and policies of the Family YMCA of BHC are followed and enforced when necessary to provide a safe, secure environment.
• Serve as a role model for policies and guidelines in the wellness center.

Compensation: $15.00 per hour
