The Group Fitness Instructor provides state-of-the-art group fitness instruction that significantly contributes to each member's health and fitness goals. To develop and instruct fun, energetic and highly motivational group fitness classes for all fitness and skill levels.
Education and Certification:
  • Current National Group Fitness (ACE or AFAA preferred) certification or equivalent and maintain certification standards.
  • Certification in specific exercise format(s) preferred.
  • Must have current CPR certification.
  • Must have current First Aid certification.

Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of group fitness teaching experience preferred.

Personal Skills
  • Strong core values including honesty, stewardship, integrity and determinates strong leadership qualities.
  • Possess excellent customer service and hospitality skills
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and motivational with large groups.
  • Excellent physical condition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized instruction while leading the entire group fitness class.
  • Provide a safe group fitness class with a variety of movement.
  • Attempt to know each exercise participant's name and their individual fitness goals.
  • Ensure the safety of all exercise participants at all times.
  • Vary exercise routines while complying with established formats and standards.
  • Exercise routines, music and class format must be designed according to the group fitness department, ACE or AFAA guidelines.
  • Monitor and record class attendance.
  • Maintain music and microphone volume at an acceptable level. (below 85 decibels)
  • Greet each member and guest with a smile and personalized comment.
  • Arrive early to class and stay after class to answer participant's questions.
  • Actively seek member and guest needs and concerns and use this information to provide appropriate motivation.
  • Assist in promoting other health and fitness related programs at The St. James.
  • Complete class checklist for area cleanliness.
  • Comply with established dress code.
  • Check e-mail and text messages for any updates prior to each class.
  • With the assistance of the Group Fitness Director, locate a suitable substitute teacher if unable to instruct class and immediately inform Group Fitness Director and front desk staff with any issues relating to arriving to class on time.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and training workshops.
