The Role
This position will be responsible for managing the Interior Communication (IC) Networks section for RCOH contracts and the direct supervision/management of a staff of Engineers and Designers. Responsible for providing objective-oriented direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines & general policies. Manager Responsibilities include: managing product schedules, technical performance, and quality of a work associated with drawings, and related work packages on a large system development-type contract. Knowledge of Nimitz Class Carrier I/C Networks is preferred, but not mandatory. Qualified candidates should be energetic and open to new ideas to enhance overhaul processes as the shipyard seeks opportunities to grow the digital shipbuilding environment.
The IC/Networks group provides engineering products and support for RCOH contracts and some in-service aircraft carrier contracts. Some of the larger systems are Fiber Optic Cable Plant (FOCP), Integrated Voice Control Network (IVCN), IC Switchboards, Navigation Systems, Announcing Systems, and the Machinery Control Monitoring System (MCMS).
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
