Job Description

Role Summary

The Platform Operations Lead owns the operational health, release management, test automation, and continuous improvement of the enterprise Workday platform - spanning production operations, incident management, release coordination, platform monitoring, and enterprise regression testing across HCM and Finance. This is an operations, reliability, and release-assurance leadership role, best suited to candidates from Workday Operations, ITSM, Release Management, SRE, or Test Automation backgrounds rather than traditional software engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

Platform Operations & Reliability

  • Lead day-to-day platform operations, incident/problem/change management, and major incident RCA and remediation.

  • Monitor platform health, KPIs, and operational dashboards; drive readiness reviews and service continuity planning.

Release & Change Management

  • Lead Workday bi-annual release planning, impact assessments, and feature enablement.

  • Coordinate tenant migrations, refreshes, and deployment schedules; govern changes through CAB.

Test Automation & Release Assurance

  • Own the enterprise test automation strategy, ensuring regression coverage across HCM, Finance, Security, and Integrations.

  • Lead regression testing for releases, tenant refreshes, and vendor patches prior to production promotion.

  • Expand automated coverage using enterprise test automation platforms to reduce manual effort and improve release confidence.

  • Define release readiness criteria with Product, Engineering, and QA; track quality via coverage and defect metrics.

Automation, Environments & Stakeholders

  • Drive automation of operational workflows and self-service capabilities to reduce incidents and manual effort.

  • Oversee tenant provisioning, environment governance, and certificate/vendor dependencies.

  • Partner with Product, HR/Finance Technology, Security, Risk, and vendors; deliver executive-ready reporting on platform health and risk.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Five to six years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills:

  • 8+ years in technology operations or enterprise application support, including 3+ years leading operations/service management for mission-critical SaaS platforms.
  • Experience supporting Workday HCM, Finance, Integrations, or Security, including tenant strategy, releases, and production support.

  • Strong grounding in ITIL-based Incident/Problem/Change/Release Management, with experience building KPIs and executive scorecards.

  • Experience implementing enterprise test automation programs (e.g., Opkey, Kainos or equivalent) and regression/release certification practices.

  • Excellent executive communication and cross-functional influence without direct authority.

Success Measures

  • Improved platform reliability and reduced incident volume / MTTR.

  • 80-90% automated regression coverage for critical business processes.

  • Successful bi-annual releases with minimal production impact.

  • Reduced manual testing effort and stronger governance/risk controls.
