Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Operations Supervisor to join our lumber mill operations in Waynesboro, MS. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is committed to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. ย

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-three specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fifteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States.ย ย 
ย 
Position Overview
The Manufacturing Operations Supervisor provides frontline leadership for a production team within the lumber mill. This role supports daily operations by promoting safety, maintaining quality standards, coordinating workflow, and developing team members to achieve production goals. The supervisor works closely with mill leadership and maintenance teams to ensure smooth and efficient mill performance.
Responsibilities:ย ย 
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by leading by example and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations.
  • Supervise daily production activities to meet output, quality, and efficiency targets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and maximize product quality and operational efficiency. ย 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.ย 
  • Coordinate with mill leadership and maintenance to optimize workflow, minimize downtime, and resolve operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Develop production schedules and coordinate movement of materials in and out of work area.ย ย 
  • Supervise, train, and develop team members by providing coaching, performance feedback, and clear expectations.ย 
  • Foster a culture of open and respectful communication.ย 
  • Prepare required operating reports (e.g. work hours, production levels, quality testing, etc.).ย 
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are maintained in safe, reliable working condition.ย 
  • Coordinate with maintenance to support preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment improvements.ย 
  • Maintain accurate production, attendance, and operational documentation.ย 
  • Assist in interviewing and selecting new team members.ย 
  • May have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.ย 
Education/Experience:ย ย 
ย 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education preferred.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required.
  • Lumber manufacturing or sawmill experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to motivate others.
  • Solid problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
Salary Range: $54,000 - $80,000
