Job description

Most trades jobs put you in one lane - tools or sales, field or office. This one combines both, and rewards people who can do them well together. If you're the kind of person who takes pride in knowing your craft and communicating its value to homeowners, we built this role for you.
Who We Are
A locally owned and operated shop that takes the trade seriously
We're not a franchise. Black Magic Chimney Sweeps is a tight, growing team serving Southern Vermont homeowners - built on honest assessments, quality work, and customers who refer their neighbors. We're looking for someone who brings the same standard to their work.
The Role
On a ladder and at a kitchen table
You'll be the person homeowners trust when something's wrong with their fireplace or chimney. That means showing up prepared, diagnosing the problem accurately, walking them through your findings clearly - and then closing the work and following through until it's done right.
You'll run pre-set in-home appointments (no cold calling, no door knocking) with homeowners who have already requested an inspection or service estimate. Your job is to build trust, present honest solutions, and ask for the business - then deliver.
If you're the kind of person who takes pride in knowing your craft and communicating its value to homeowners, we built this role for you.
Day-to-Day
What you'll actually do
  • Conduct chimney and fireplace inspections and walk homeowners through your findings clearly and honestly
  • Prepare accurate estimates - accounting for materials, labor, and customer budget - and close the work
  • Assist with sweeping and servicing pellet, wood, and gas hearth appliances
  • Manage your schedule and communicate proactively with the Operations Director and office staff throughout every job
  • Build lasting relationships that generate referrals and repeat business
  • Keep vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety standards - no shortcuts
  • Stay current on fireplace, stove, and manufacturer product knowledge

We run a 5S shop - Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain. It's how we stay sharp and professional, and it's something the whole team takes seriously.
What We're Looking For
What we can train vs. what you need to bring
You don't need to know everything about chimneys on day one - we'll train you and sponsor your CSIA certification. What we can't teach is work ethic, honesty, and the ability to communicate well under pressure. Those need to already be there.
  • Experience: Trade, home services, or customer-facing sales background
  • Mechanical: Comfortable with hand and power tools; mechanically inclined
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal - with customers and teammates alike
  • Composure: Able to navigate tough conversations without losing your professionalism
  • Logistics: Valid driver's license with a clean record
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; some college a plus

Familiarity with the chimney or fireplace industry is a bonus, not a requirement.
Being Straight With You
What success looks like here
This is a sales role. Your income is tied to your results. If you're not comfortable presenting solutions and asking for the business, this probably isn't the right fit - and that's okay.
What we offer in return: pre-set leads, flexible scheduling, a team that actually supports you, and a product homeowners genuinely need. No cold calling, no games, no gotchas.
Compensation & Benefits
What we offer
  • Career Growth: Advancement tied to performance - a real path, not a promise
  • Paid Training & Certification: We cover your CSIA certification and ongoing development
  • Schedule: Full-time year-round, no nights, limited seasonal weekends
  • Health Insurance: Medical coverage for you and your family
  • Paid Time Off: Paid holidays and PTO - because time away matters
  • Retirement Plan: We invest in your future, not just your next paycheck

Ready to apply?
Before you do, ask yourself three questions:
  • Do you show up when you say you will?
  • Do you communicate when plans change?
  • Can you talk to a homeowner like a trusted advisor, not a salesperson?

If yes - we'd like to talk. Tell us a little about your background and what you're looking for.
No resume required to start the conversation.
