Job description

Godby Hearth & Home is seeking a motivated and dedicated Fireplace Service Apprentice to join our dynamic team. As a Fireplace Service Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to learn the intricacies of fireplace maintenance and repair from experienced professionals, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field.

This is a full-time year-round position with optional overtime during the busy season.

What’s in it for you?

  • This position will pay $19 - $25 per hour, depending on experience.
  • You will work from 7:30am to 4pm Monday through Friday (45 hours per week avg). There will be some weekends available during the busy season for overtime.

  • 10% Commission on accessories sold (Potential to make additional $5-10K/yr)

What would you do if hired?

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various types of fireplaces, including gas, wood-burning, and electric.
  • Shadow and work closely with skilled technicians to learn best practices and industry standards.
  • Perform routine inspections and tests on fireplace systems to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Help in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems related to fireplace components and performance.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed and parts used.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines and company safety procedures.

What you will need:

  • Eagerness to learn and a strong interest in the fireplace service industry.
  • General mechanical aptitude required. This includes using multiple power and hand tools proficiently.
  • General understanding of gas and electrical connections is preferred, but not necessary.

  • A strong attention to details and solid time management skills to prioritize project deadlines.

  • This job also requires that you be able to lift 75+ lbs. individually, and in some cases over 200 lbs. lifting as a team.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • An ability to use critical thinking for resolutions of jobsite installations.
  • Valid driver’s license – no DUI in background check (insurance requirement).
