Schedule

  • Primary: Monโ€“Fri onsite 7:00aโ€“7:00p
  • Weekends: Satโ€“Sun 6:00aโ€“10:00a rounding, then 24-hour in-house call
  • On-call windows: Weekdays 4:30pโ€“6:00a; Weekends 5:00pโ€“5:00a
  • Call ratio: 1:3; call response time: 20 minutes

Patient population & caseload

  • 100% adult; average census 8โ€“10 inpatients
  • Typical admissions/day: ~3
  • Rounds in ICU and stepdown units; ~5 phone consults/day
  • Case mix: cardiac (CABG, valve cases, aortic dissection), thoracic (robotic, VATS, thoracotomy), vascular (open CEA, AAA, revascularizations), heart failure support (LVAD, ECMO, Impella)

Facility & support

  • EMR: Cerner
  • Specialty backup: surgeon assists with weekend rounding; night PA available some nights (Tueโ€“Fri 8:00pโ€“6:00a); weekend rounding nurse (5:00aโ€“5:00p) triages first-line calls
  • Temporary hospital privileges available; full hospital privileges not required
  • Agency covers travel, lodging, and malpractice

Required qualifications

  • NP or PA with cardiothoracic surgery experience (fellowship required)
  • Board certified
  • Licensed in Indiana or hold IMLC
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and required certifications
  • EVH proficiency required for PAs (โ‰ฅ500 cases / 10 years)
  • Must bring personal laptop for call coverage
  • Ability/experience training APPs on EVH preferred

Primary responsibilities

  • Daily rounding on ICU and stepdown inpatients, manage new consults and discharges
  • First assist in OR as needed; learn and follow surgeon routines
  • Perform endoscopic vein harvesting (Hemapro 2) and assist with open vein harvests or EVH for lower-extremity bypasses as required
  • Provide in-house on-call coverage for inpatient management, ER consults, and transfers
  • Train new APPs on EVH techniques when required
