Job description

Surgical Oncology APP Needed in Minnesota
Target Start Date: ASAP (April start acceptable)
Contract Length: 13‑week assignment, flexible extensions
Schedule
Coverage Type: Scheduled clinical hours — minimal call
Shift Structure & Expectations:
Monday–Friday
Day shift (approx. 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)
Primary focus: inpatient coverage, plus some outpatient responsibilities
Occasional weekend rounding (approx. 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.)
EMR: Not specified
Practice Details
Setting:
Mix of inpatient and outpatient surgical oncology
Acute care hospital environment within a large regional cancer program
Department Focus:
Surgical oncology with emphasis on hepatobiliary patients
Coordination of pre‑ and post‑operative care
Inpatient management and occasional OR assistance
Work Expectations:
Independent outpatient visits
Inpatient rounding and management
Assist in the OR as needed (prepping, intraoperative assistance, closure)
Perform procedures such as wound care, drain management and removal
Collaborate closely with surgical teams and multidisciplinary oncology staff
Participate in care coordination and patient education
Hospital Size: Large regional acute care facility
Credentialing Timeframe: Fingerprinting required; results typically post within ~48 hours before privileges can be granted
Clinical Scope
Independent evaluation and management of surgical oncology patients
Ordering and interpreting diagnostics in collaboration with supervising physician
Managing pre‑ and post‑operative care
Providing inpatient consultations and follow‑up
Assisting surgeons during hepatobiliary and other oncology‑related procedures
Supporting care continuity across inpatient and outpatient settings
Requirements
Role: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant — Surgical Oncology
Board Certification: Required
License:
Minnesota license required for PAs
NPs may be considered without Minnesota license in hand (facility willing to license)
DEA: Required
Experience:
Surgical oncology or surgical specialty background preferred
Ability to work independently in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Skills Required:
Experience with postoperative care
OR assist experience (preferred)
Ability to manage complex oncology patients
Strong clinical assessment and procedural skills
Location
