Job description

Humboldt Park Health is expanding our Registry (PRN) Respiratory Therapist Float Pool and is currently seeking Respiratory Therapists available for overnight coverage (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM). This is an excellent opportunity for compassionate, skilled professionals looking for flexible scheduling while supporting patient care in a collaborative acute care environment.

We are offering a flat rate of $45/hour for this PRN opportunity. Qualified candidates must possess a current Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license, be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT), and hold a current BLS certification.

Schedule

Overnight Shift Only: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)

Summary

Performs all modalities of respiratory therapy, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, while maintaining patient records for individuals with abnormal respiratory conditions in accordance with established procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Administers respiratory therapy treatments using standardized methods and safety practices, including therapeutic gases, humidification, aerosol therapy, breathing systems, breathing exercises, and bronchopulmonary drainage techniques for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures using manual techniques and mechanical ventilators for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Administers respiratory medications as prescribed by the attending physician.
  • Documents medications, treatments, patient responses, and maintains departmental records.
  • Responds to emergency (Code) situations and participates in ongoing departmental education.
  • Monitors mechanically ventilated patients in the ICU and NICU, changes ventilator tubing per protocol, and consults with physicians regarding changes in treatment.
  • Makes routine rounds to assess patients receiving oxygen therapy and documents findings at least once per shift.
  • Assists physicians and nurses with intubation, blood draws, and other procedures as needed.
  • Transcribes physician orders and consults with providers regarding respiratory therapy treatment options.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with infection control standards.
  • Assists in the clinical education of new respiratory therapists and respiratory therapy students as assigned.
  • Participates in departmental Risk Management and Infection Control programs.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Current Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required
  • CRT or RRT credential required
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required
  • ACLS required
  • NRP preferred
