What is a weekend payroll?

A Weekend Payroll job involves processing employee wages and related payroll tasks on weekends to ensure timely payments. Responsibilities may include calculating hours, handling taxes and deductions, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations. This role is essential in businesses with non-traditional payroll schedules or industries requiring weekend payroll support. Typically, proficiency in payroll software and attention to detail are key skills for this position.

What are the typical responsibilities of a weekend payroll professional?

Weekend Payroll professionals are responsible for processing employee hours, calculating wages, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and managing any payroll adjustments or corrections that arise over the weekend. They often act as the point of contact for payroll-related inquiries during non-standard business hours, responding to employee questions and resolving urgent issues promptly. The role requires close coordination with HR and finance departments to guarantee data accuracy and seamless payroll operations. Additionally, they may run payroll reports, audit records, and ensure that all data is processed securely and confidentially. This position is crucial for organizations that operate around the clock or require payroll support outside of a traditional Monday-to-Friday schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the weekend payroll position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Payroll professional, you need strong attention to detail, solid mathematical skills, and knowledge of payroll processing, typically supported by experience in payroll or accounting. Proficiency with payroll software (such as ADP, Paychex, or QuickBooks), timekeeping systems, and basic spreadsheet tools is essential. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage confidential information, and clear communication are important soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure that payroll is processed accurately and on time, even outside standard business hours, supporting staff morale and compliance.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for someone who thrives on accuracy, enjoys solving complex payroll challenges, and takes pride in continuously improving processes. This is more than a payroll processing role; it's an opportunity to lead payroll operations, shape payroll systems and processes, and serve as the organization's payroll expert.
If you're looking to work for a company that values collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, this could be the position for you!
What are we looking for?
• Three or more years of progressively responsible payroll experience
• Experience processing multi-state payroll for multiple entities
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage and hour laws
• Experience with prevailing wage payroll, certified payroll reporting, and applicable federal and state prevailing wage regulations (particularly California and Washington) preferred
• Experience with payroll and HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred)
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting payroll deadlines
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with employees, vendors, and leadership
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively; self-motivated and dependable
• Committed to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Why choose Northwest Pump?
• We offer a competitive wage and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, LTD insurance, 401(k) with Dollar-for-Dollar Company Match, paid vacation, sick time, jury duty, bereavement, community service leave, wellness programs, and other great company-provided benefits
• You'll work closely with knowledgeable, supportive leaders and hiring managers
• You'll be part of a growing company with opportunities to expand your recruiting expertise and grow your career
• You'll make a meaningful impact as the largest distributor of petroleum equipment in the Western US - with a strong local, family-oriented culture
What else?
• This is a full-time, non-exempt position with optional hybrid availability, working regular business hours Monday through Friday
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
