Job description

Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Designer to join our team in our Indianapolis, IN Headquarters. This role supports electrical design by creating and updating power, lighting, and instrumentation drawings in Revit and AutoCAD. It involves producing coordinated construction documents, assisting with calculations and layouts, maintaining Revit models, and ensuring accuracy and code compliance. The position works closely with multidisciplinary teams throughout all project phases and contributes to improving drafting and modeling standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify electrical drawings using Revit and AutoCAD, including power, lighting, and instrumentation systems.
  • Produce construction documents, plans, diagrams, schedules, and details in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with civil, architectural, mechanical, structural, and other disciplines to ensure fully integrated project deliverables.
  • Assist in performing load calculations, equipment layouts, and circuiting under the direction of a licensed engineer.
  • Maintain and update project models, families, and templates within Revit.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes.
  • Support project teams through all phases, from conceptual design to construction administration.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of drafting and modeling standards.

Qualifications/Skills

  • 2–5+ years of experience as an electrical designer or similar role
  • Proficiency in Revit (MEP focus) and AutoCAD for electrical design
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including lighting and power distribution systems
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and engineering sketches
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fastpaced environment
