What are Remote Electrical Drawing jobs?

Remote Electrical Drawing jobs involve creating, editing, and reviewing electrical schematics, blueprints, and layouts using specialized software, all while working from a location outside of a traditional office or engineering firm. Professionals in these roles collaborate with engineers, architects, or project managers through digital platforms to design or update electrical systems for buildings, machinery, or infrastructure. These jobs often require proficiency in CAD software and a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles. Remote Electrical Drawing positions offer flexibility, allowing professionals to work from home or anywhere with a reliable internet connection.

What are some typical challenges faced by Remote Electrical Drawing professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Electrical Drawing professionals often encounter challenges related to communication and coordination with on-site teams, as well as ensuring accuracy in interpreting project specifications without direct physical access to the site. To address these issues, it's important to utilize collaborative design tools, maintain clear and frequent communication with project stakeholders, and regularly participate in virtual meetings to clarify requirements. Staying up-to-date with industry-standard software and best practices also helps to minimize errors and streamline workflow when working remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Electrical Drawing Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Electrical Drawing Specialist, you need a solid background in electrical engineering principles, experience interpreting schematics, and proficiency in drafting standards, usually supported by an associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field. Expertise with CAD software (such as AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical) and familiarity with industry codes and standards are typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for excelling in this role. These capabilities ensure accurate, compliant, and collaborative delivery of electrical designs in distributed work environments.

Job description

About the Company

Our client is a well-established engineering and consulting firm with decades of experience supporting complex infrastructure projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic and across the United States. The firm specializes in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (M/E/P) estimating services for both public and private sector clients, with expertise spanning water and wastewater treatment facilities, electric bus depots, transportation infrastructure, and other mission-critical projects.

Known for its technical excellence and collaborative culture, the organization provides clients with reliable cost planning and estimating services that support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

About the Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join its growing team in a fully remote capacity. This role is responsible for preparing detailed construction cost estimates during various stages of design development to support owner budgeting, capital planning, and procurement strategies.

Unlike traditional contractor estimating positions, this is not a hard-bid estimating role. Instead, the focus is on developing accurate, comprehensive cost projections that help clients make informed project decisions throughout planning and design.

This position offers the flexibility of working remotely, with occasional travel to the company's office in Parkton, Maryland for onboarding, training, team meetings, and periodic project site visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate electrical construction cost estimates from conceptual design through final construction documents.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation to develop detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing.
  • Evaluate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and installation costs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to clarify scope and identify potential cost impacts.
  • Assist with budgeting, value engineering, and cost planning throughout project development.
  • Maintain estimating documentation and support continuous improvement of estimating practices.
  • Travel occasionally for training, team meetings, and project site visits as needed.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of electrical estimating experience, preferably within M/E/P, infrastructure, or industrial construction.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction drawings, specifications, and estimating methodologies.
  • Experience preparing estimates across multiple phases of design development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software (training will be provided on the firm's proprietary estimating platform).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to Parkton, Maryland for training and team meetings.
  • Willingness to travel periodically for project site visits.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work environment with flexible scheduling.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful infrastructure and public works projects.
  • Collaborative team of experienced engineering and estimating professionals.
  • Training on the company's estimating software and processes.
  • Professional growth and long-term career development opportunities.
  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (details provided during the interview process).
