Job description

SNA seeks a bright, collaborative Forensic Scientist 2-DNA Analyst (Current Day Operations Section), with a strong work ethic to join our team. SNA's team works together in pursuit of the same cause: build a safe and just world by
empowering organizations in the use of forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence.
Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform nuclear and mitochondrial DNA testing to support the Forensic Pathology Investigations division of AFMES with medicolegal death investigations, to include the processing of samples from accident scene investigations or mass disasters in accordance with multiple memoranda of agreement, or additional tasks as defined by the government.
  • Receive and accession physical evidence while maintaining legal chain-of-custody and integrity of submitted specimens.
  • Process biological specimens, to include stains, human blood, oral swabs, cadaveric tissues and bone.
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret technical data, and produce technical reports.
  • Provide training in laboratory techniques and procedures to technical staff, students and guests of the laboratory.
  • Participate in continuing education through courses, webinars, and conferences on matters relating to DNA typing, forensic science and molecular pathology.
  • Provide expert witness testimony, through travel to other states or countries, as required by the government.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, which requires possible work after hours and on weekends and holidays, as required by the government.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in forensic science or a master's degree in one of the natural sciences with experience in forensic science, or a B.A./B.S. degree in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-related area (with two years of relevant DNA experience).
  • At least 9 cumulative semester or equivalent credit hours encompassing the subjects of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics/population genetics are required.
  • Additionally, it is preferable that applicants have successfully completed training in all or some processes of nuclear and/or mitochondrial (Sanger based) testing.
