SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine clerical and office assistance duties; receives, routes and places calls; directs visitors; types a variety of correspondence and forms; maintains records and files. Incumbent performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this classification work at the middle school level, and are assigned duties that are generally limited in scope, less complex in nature than the Senior Clerical Aide and are routinely and repetitively performed according to established procedures.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Types routine reports, letters, memos, lists, schedules; may perform student attendance office duties, compiling daily attendance sheets and admitting tardy students when necessary; inputs and retrieves information utilizing data and word processing equipment; maintains records, logs, and rosters; organizes and maintains records and files.
May act as receptionist; directs inquiries and provides general information on District policies and procedures; assists the public, parents, school personnel and others by answering questions and taking complaints; receives, distributes and dispatches mail and other materials; and indexes and files a variety of records and forms.
Assists school personnel in special assignments or daily routines.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  1. Experience: Six (6) months of responsible experience performing typing, filing and general clerical duties;

OR
  1. Education: Successful completion of clerical work experience training program.

Knowledge of: Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; basic mathematics; current office methods and procedures including files and records management; mail and document handling; telephone etiquette; common office equipment and its usage.
Skill at: Typing with speed and accuracy; spelling correctly; reading and writing English at a level required for successful job performance; preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records, files and summaries; making mathematical computations; learning to operate various office equipment; providing good and responsive customer service; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; communicating with diverse groups; displaying tact and courtesy; maintaining confidentiality; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions.
Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Please be advised health insurance premiums are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
