Job description

Van-Am Companies is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our finance team in St. Joseph, Missouri. This position supports the accounting operations of Van-Am Tool & Engineering and Van-Am Defense Systems, providing accurate financial reporting and analysis for our growing aerospace, defense, and commercial manufacturing businesses.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of manufacturing accounting experience and understands the financial processes unique to a manufacturing environment. Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and government contract accounting is required.

Opportunity to work a four-day, 10-hour workweek.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Process customer invoicing, cash receipts, and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Analyze financial results, inventory, job profitability, and account variances.
  • Assist with financial statements, tax filings, fixed asset accounting, and audit preparation.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
  • Develop financial reports and dashboards using Epicor ERP, Microsoft Excel, and other reporting tools.
  • Partner with Operations, Purchasing, Shipping, Sales, and Executive Leadership to improve financial processes and support informed business decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of three years of manufacturing accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, inventory accounting, cost accounting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using ERP systems; Epicor ERP experience is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
