This role is categorized as hybrid. The selected candidate will be expected to work on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week, or as otherwise determined by the hiring leader.

About the role:
This position is for a Design Leader Technical supporting the AVD Chassis Structures, Suspensions and Steering design teams. The role provides day-to-day technical direction and work assignments for a group of designers, mentors the team on product and math-based processes and implements direction set by Design leadership and/or the Design Technical Specialist while ensuring compliance to GM design standards and processes.
The role also includes workload leveling and scheduling within the group, along with ensuring appropriate global data sharing and data security practices.
Responsibilities
  • Manage design project assignments, status, and timing.
  • Assist the DGM with workload leveling and scheduling within the group.
  • Advise the DGM on assignment status and resource capacity/capability.
  • Work closely with the DGM and Design Technical Specialist to set design and strategic direction.
  • Mentor designers on engineering standards and GM business processes.
  • Ensure the design team's adherence to Design Standards and Best Practices, including Global Design InfoBOOK and Design Standard Work.
  • Execute appropriate studies, alternatives, and layouts, and participate in recommendations to program direction.
  • Apply manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and integration knowledge to parts and subsystem designs.
  • Work closely with engineers and designers to ensure completion of design deliverables per GPDP requirements.
  • Participate in design and virtual reviews and SMT/PMT meetings as required.
  • Ensure proactive communication between all partners, including SMT/PMT, suppliers, CAE, and program teams.
  • Work collaboratively with global partners on workshare program deliverables.
  • Actively identify new areas for learning and take advantage of learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Product Design / Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of product design experience.
  • Proficient in GM business processes, including GxDP and Change Management.
  • Proficient in product design concepts and manufacturing processes relevant to chassis structures, suspension, and steering components.
  • Proficient in CAD software and tools, including NX, Teamcenter Engineering, and Teamcenter Visualization.
  • Proficient in math release processes, specifications, and data management.
  • Demonstrated application of design operations and processes, including standard modeling, clearance analysis, vehicle assembly structure, and global data security.
  • Proficient in GD&T; ASME certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, including global partners.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to solve highly complex problems and lead teams to consensus when needed.
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience in Suspensions and Chassis Structures design.
  • Experience with Sketcher and Motions tools.
