The Senior Manager, Automation Engineering, leads the design, integration, and continuous improvement of automation systems to enhance operational efficiency. This role leverages advanced data analysis and project management skills to drive technology adoption and process optimization within supply chain environments. The position requires effective communication to influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business strategies. The successful candidate will oversee project execution, risk management, and financial evaluation while fostering a culture of operational excellence and innovation to support Walmart’s strategic objectives.

The Automation Engineering team at Walmart is dedicated to transforming the perishable supply chain by leveraging automation and innovative technologies. This team delivers large-scale solutions that enhance freshness, availability, and customer experience. Members apply data analysis, project management, and process improvement skills to design and integrate automation systems effectively. Collaborating across departments, the team drives operational excellence and continuous improvement while managing project risks and business strategies. Their work supports Walmart’s commitment to efficient, high-impact supply chain operations that serve millions of customers daily.
What you'll do:
Define and execute automation strategies that support perishable distribution and align with business and operational objectives. Oversee ramp strategy, including labor planning, throughput validation, and operational readiness Lead cross-functional automation programs that improve service, product quality, cost-to-serve, and operational performance. Manage program execution, including timelines, risks, resources, scope, budget, and quality to ensure successful delivery. Own capital and operating budgets across automation programs, including forecasting, monthly reviews, and leadership reporting. Oversee procurement, delivery, commissioning, testing (FAT/SAT), go-live, and ramp-up of key system components. Ensure operational readiness and successful adoption across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams. Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence through implementation of automation best practices.
What you'll bring:
  • Proven expertise in automation system design, integration, and commissioning within complex operational environments.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis, statistical modeling, and visualization tools to drive informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects, including risk assessment, contingency planning, and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience in process improvement, operational excellence, and business process design to optimize workflows.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, including mechatronics, electrical design, and control systems troubleshooting.
  • Skilled in developing business cases, financial analysis, and evaluating return on investment for automation initiatives.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and present complex information clearly.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
