The Area Manager oversees the Branch Manager to assist and support in the overall sales, operational performance, employee recruitment, development and conduct of all assigned Retail Branches. This position will provide oversight for multiple branch locations, including Menlo Park, San Jose West, San Jose Downtown, Fremont, Milpitas, and Los Altos. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


Ensures compliance within all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.


Management Activities

  • Regularly meet one-on-one with each direct report to determine branch needs and support
  • Manage and organize monthly meetings with Branch Managers that are assigned in the region
  • Support and address employee performance including compensation, recruiting, career development and performance counseling
  • Actively manage branch manager openings to ensure all positions are promptly filled
  • Actively works with the branch manager to ensure all branch openings are promptly filled
  • Conducts frequent (at a minimum monthly) branch visits to ensure consistency in operations, sales and marketing efforts and successful implementation of new products and services
  • Collaborates with VP Branch Operations Officer to identify deficiencies in operations and provides Branch Managers guidance in correcting behaviors with deficient Certification Packages
  • Tracks and reviews daily area performance levels; compiles summary reports and communicates standings; develops and directs action plans for improvement areas
  • Continuous review of the Vital View Dashboards to stay abreast of branch trends
  • Coaching and developing strong professional relationships with branch managers and teams by communicating positive accomplishments
  • Ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service to both external clients and internal partners throughout the bank by managing your assigned regions mystery shop results and providing coaching to accomplish the branch goal
  • Collaborate with VP Training & Development Officer to identify knowledge deficiencies in sales and service metrics i.e., Mystery Shops and provides Branch Managers guidance in correcting behaviors
  • Regularly review and approve monthly and quarterly incentives for accuracy and qualification
  • Support and encourage employee cross training throughout assigned branches to strengthen sales, operations, and overall bank knowledge
  • Manage, schedule and direct New Account Floater Employees to branches requesting coverage

Operational Activities

  • Work with Branch Managers to Ensure accurate and timely completion of all operational responsibilities to include but not limited to callbacks, satisfactory internal audits, monthly certifications throughout Retail Branches while enforcing branch policies that align with the institution and meet regulatory compliance requirements
  • Actively work with Branch Managers to ensure the bank operational processes and procedures are adhered to, as well as satisfactory audit attainment
  • Monitor the overall branch activities that negatively impact efficiency and profitability, i.e., employee turnover, fee waivers and operational losses; with an overall focus on reducing costs and increasing branch income
  • Performs other job-related duties or special projects as assigned

Sales Leadership

  • Provides senior level guidance and support to the branches regarding annual goals
  • Partner with the Branch Manager and SVP- Regional Sales Manager to generate additional new accounts, cash management services and new deposits. Strategies include but not limited to outbound calls, in person meetings, business networking and participation in branch and community events
  • Work closely with Branch Managers and SVP-Regional Sales Manager to partner in joint marketing plans and cross selling efforts
  • Implement tactical plans with the BM and SVP-Regional Sales Manager to actively call on new and prospective customers, exploring needs and cross selling bank products and services
  • Work closely with the SVP-Regional Sales Manager to drive area branch sales and performance and provide strategic direction focused on the continued growth and development of assigned branches

Community Relations Activities

  • Engage and support Branch Managers with community development and serve in the communities serviced by the bank branch network
  • Minimum of 10 hours CRA volunteer hours per year. Volunteer hours are typically scheduled within business hours. This is compensable time and mileage is reimbursed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or an equivalent amount of directly related work experience
  • Requires minimum 8 years’ progressive branch operations and/or sales management experience in the financial services or banking industry
  • Requires minimum 5 years of management or supervisory experience
  • Solid technology skills, including intermediate proficiency with Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Power Point) and banking software applications
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with proven ability to prioritize and manage workload and to instill a sense of urgency in others as necessary to meet deadlines and goals
  • Excellent customer service, relationship management, and business development skills
  • Knowledge of marketing, sales, financial, managerial and leadership principles with broad knowledge of banking operation practices, policies, products, and applicable regulations
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making, critical and strategic thinking skills, as well as strong attention to detail and concern for data accuracy
  • Ability to analyze trends, processes and procedures and develop innovated and effective solutions for improved performance
  • Strong overall business acumen with an ability to understand the direction, priorities, and goals of the organization
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; presents a positive and professional image, effectively collaborates with diverse teams, and is successful at achieving results through the effort of others
  • Flexibility to engage in regional travel

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of Branch Managers, including training, coaching, and performance management

The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 10 pounds), carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching. The incumbent for this position will require ability to operate basic business equipment as found in a professional office setting.
