Job description

Vice President, Customer Logistics

Reporting to the SVP, Operations & Supply Chain, the VP, Customer Logistics ensures the delivery of customer service and the end-to-end order to cash process in a balanced, cost-effective manner. This individual will have responsibility as the face of the Smucker supply chain to our internal and external commercial partners. This individual will also have responsibility for delivering against Customer Logistics initiatives and supporting our on-going continuous improvement / transformation work.

The VP, Customer Logistics will also have strategic responsibility to partner with internal and external constituents to define the future requirements of our supply chain to deliver against the needs of eCommerce and multi-channel retailers. This individual will be charged with coordinating the execution of changes to our supply chain when needed to ensure service prioritization and innovative customer supply chain offerings.

Location: Orrville, OH Corporate Offices

Work Arrangements: Hybrid - onsite a minimum of 9 days a month primarily during core weeks as determined by the Company; maybe more as business need requires

In this role you will:

  • Build / Enhance key customer relationships, particularly with senior level supply chain executives, ensuring supply chain joint business plan models are in place at top growth accounts
  • Own customer segmentation approach while balancing appropriate service level execution across key business units, product groups and go to market strategies.
  • Oversees and monitors the order and flow of all incoming orders throughout the cycle. Ensures adequate staff for daily business processing of orders, deductions, and invoices (cash application)
  • Ensures internal and external adherence to order to cash policies and implementation of cost to serve programs.
  • Identifies issues in service and works with other supply chain functions (IBP, transportation, warehousing, Sales, CCB) to resolve the issues in a timely manner
  • Identifies longer term service and cost improvement opportunities with key customers. Works with sales and customers to scope and resource the initiatives for joint benefit
  • Analyzes payment issues and deductions for root cause and makes recommendations for trends to Sales and Finance
  • Develops, implements, and reports key performance indicators based on Smucker and customers' shared objectives
  • Develop and execute a Customer Logistics technology roadmap, inclusive of driving consensus on approach, scope, timing, and prioritization with IS and the broader supply chain team
  • Ensures effective technology utilization for downstream inventory analysis within key retailers and distributor networks. Ensure appropriate inventory signals are maintained internally and externally for key customer accounts.
  • Develops customer service organization as a team/capability and as individuals
  • Stay current with industry / customer trends such as eCommerce, develop & modify supply chain model as needed to ensure on-going support

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (MBA preferred)
  • 15+ years' experience in customer service and/or supply chain
  • Experience in the consumer products industry working with major national retailers and commerce companies
  • Experience developing / shaping organizational design to maximize both service improvements and for driving overall supply chain productivity
  • Experience implementing and leveraging advanced ERP/order management and complementary supply chain systems
  • Financial savvy with the ability to ultimately drive improvement in overall company cash flow
  • Expertise with project management and process improvement
  • Strong leadership, teaming, and positioning skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent people and decision-making skills
  • Experience managing large teams through significant technology-driven change including change management
  • Commercial experience and/or solid understanding of go-to-market approach
  • Up to 15% required travel
