What does a VP of Software Development do?

A VP of Software Development is responsible for leading the software development teams within an organization, setting strategic direction, and ensuring high-quality software delivery. They manage senior developers, oversee project timelines, and collaborate with other departments such as product management and IT. Their role also includes budgeting, hiring, and implementing best practices to drive innovation and efficiency. Ultimately, they align software development goals with the overall business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a VP of Software Development?

To excel as a VP of Software Development, you need deep expertise in software engineering, team leadership, strategic planning, and a proven track record of managing large-scale development projects, usually supported by an advanced degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with agile methodologies, DevOps practices, cloud platforms, and enterprise project management tools is critical, as are certifications like PMP or Scrum Master. Balancing innovation with delivery timelines, managing cross-functional communication, and aligning diverse teams toward shared objectives are ongoing aspects of the role. Job description

Role: VP of Marketing

Location: Remote (US)

Hours: Full Time

The Role

Founded on the principle of democratizing access — first to music in 1999, now to creative expertise — Napster has consistently been at the forefront of transformational technology shifts that expand markets and empower users. The company's latest platform turns passive consumers into active creators, providing the interface layer between foundation AI models and human creativity. For more information, visit napster.com.

Reporting to the Global Head of Communications, the VP of Marketing will operate as a strong, senior partner and will build and own demand generation, marketing operations, and brand execution and performance from the ground up. This is a senior marketing leader who owns the revenue side of marketing end to end: pipeline as a number you answer for, not a contribution to someone else\'s.

What You'll DoBuild the machine
  • Own and evolve go-to-market strategy for Napster\'s product suite, with a strong focus on B2B enterprise.
  • Run account-based demand generation into named enterprise targets, feeding the sales team and the Microsoft channel.
  • Own marketing operations, martech, attribution, and reporting across sourced, influenced, and accelerated pipeline.
  • Own the demand-side content system: market POV, SEO/GEO search demand, account nurture, and top-of-funnel programs that compound over time.
  • Own email marketing — landing the right message with the right person at the right time.
One story, everywhere
  • Build brand strategy and the campaigns that carry it — public brand moments, sponsorships, out-of-home.
  • Own performance marketing and the owned channels.
  • Build a paid strategy spanning social, OOH, search, digital, and traditional media.
  • Work closely with Communications so campaigns, PR moments, executive visibility, and owned channels reinforce one story.
Run the function
  • Bring structure and process to ambiguous, fast-moving initiatives — comfortable inheriting a mess and cleaning it up.
  • Build a small, high-output team; lean on systems and AI before headcount.
  • Use agencies as leverage on a strong internal core, not a substitute for owning strategy or the number.
Deliverables
  • Documented go-to-market plans for new and existing products
  • Defined ICPs and early customer pilots or case studies
  • Account-based demand-gen and performance marketing programs with clear reporting on sourced and influenced pipeline
Impact

This person defines what marketing means operationally at Napster — building the go-to-market, demand-gen, and brand engine largely from scratch, and turning market attention into enterprise pipeline.

What You'll Bring
  • 8+ years of relevant marketing experience spanning demand generation, marketing operations, and brand — ideally in enterprise B2B software with marketing accountable for pipeline.
  • Proven experience developing and rolling out go-to-market plans for B2B enterprise products, and marketing through a major channel partner (Microsoft co-sell experience a strong plus).
  • Experience working in both startup and larger, established corporate marketing organizations.
  • Tech or SaaS industry experience strongly preferred; AI industry experience a significant plus.
  • Exceptional operational rigor — able to bring structure to ambiguous, fast-changing situations.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the confidence to align competing stakeholders and strong personalities, in plain language free of unnecessary jargon.
  • Fluency in the AI category: you understand why enterprise AI deals stall (security review, unclear ROI, pilot theater, integration burden, governance questions) and can turn that skepticism into proof and a story Microsoft sellers and enterprise customers can defend.
  • Low ego, collaborative by instinct — you build working rhythms across departments and functions so decisions move fast and the market sees one story.
We\'ll be extra pumped if you have
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools as part of your own marketing workflow.
  • Experience reporting to or working closely under a CMO in a larger organization and are now ready to own a marketing function independently.
Benefits
  • Paid Time-Off: We offer flexible vacation time with 10 company holidays.
  • Health Plans: We offer robust medical, dental, and vision plans for you and your dependents. Disability, life insurance, and FSA benefits are also available
  • Wellness: Access to Teladoc and an EAP
  • Parental Leave: Paid leave
  • Retirement Savings: Contribute pretax earnings to our 401(k) Plan
Our Culture
  • Impact: Play a crucial role in our growth journey.
  • Culture: Join a vibrant team valuing creativity and collaboration.
  • Growth: Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Reward: Enjoy competitive compensation, equity opportunities, and comprehensive benefits.
  • Ready to shape our future? Apply now and be part of something extraordinary!

We’re looking for more forward-thinking, collaborative people to be part of our innovation journey and mission to push the boundaries of technology. If you’re ready to help us achieve this vision, we’d love to hear from you! At Napster Corp, we're looking for people who are invigorated by our values and driven to change the world, not those who simply check off boxes.

Napster Corp embraces a diversity of backgrounds and experiences and provides equal opportunity for all applicants and employees. We strive to build a company that reflects a global audience.
