Job description

The role of VP, Distribution at Family Dollar, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of distribution operations for multiple facilities throughout the distribution network. This position will also be responsible for providing strategic management and hands-on leadership designed to support a culture of continuous improvement that provides cost and productivity improvements through enhanced methodologies. This position is responsible for embracing Family Dollar's store-centric commitment to customers, customer service, and sales.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide general oversight and guidance on all distribution functions, with a focus on developing effective methods to measure performance and optimize productivity throughout the distribution network.

Formulate and execute strategies designed to achieve operational objectives for distribution network and individual distribution centers.

Develop the operating budget for the department. Upon final approval ensure the distribution centers operate within appropriated amounts.

Develop policies and procedures for distribution processes in order to ensure optimization and compliance with established standards and regulations.

Provide strategic vision and direction for network-wide implementation of new programs or processes and ensure statistical reports are developed to measure and manage tactical progress and compliance.

Proactively work with both internal and external business partners to ensure distribution operation is effectively supporting customer requirements and achieving fulfillment and delivery expectations.

Build strategic cross-functional relationships with key management throughout the organization, e.g., Store Operations, Transportation, Merchandising, Human Resources.

Develop operational and productivity metrics, resource needs, and opportunities for improvement.

Identify and evaluate strategic distribution technology opportunities, e.g., Catalyst, RF, Voice Pick.

Ensure establishment and maintenance of positive labor- management relations designed to promote harmonious employee relations.

Coach and mentor distribution management staff, as necessary.

Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Approximately 40% travel. Mix of home office environment and distribution center onsite visits. Previous multi-site responsibility preferred.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Distribution, Operations, Transportation, or related field preferred.

Minimum 10-15 years senior management in operations/distribution environment.
