Job description
At The Centers, we believe that every person — regardless of their circumstances — deserves access to high-quality, compassionate, and culturally competent care. We are a mission-driven organization serving underserved populations and a recognized center of excellence for individuals living with severe mental illness (SMI) and substance use disorder (SUD). Our integrated healthcare model spans a multi-site Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), a Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC), a Crisis Receiving Center, and a youth residential campus — delivering care where it matters most.
We are seeking a bold, visionary nursing executive to join our leadership team and shape the future of nursing across our entire continuum of care.
The OpportunityThe Executive Vice President (EVP) of Nursing Services is one of the most consequential senior leadership roles at The Centers. This executive is responsible for the strategic, operational, and clinical oversight of all nursing functions — encompassing Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Medical Assistants (MAs) — across our outpatient services and HOPE campus.
As the EVP, you will set the standard for clinical nursing practice enterprise-wide, directly supervise the VP of Nursing Services and the Director of Nursing for Crisis Services, and ensure consistent, high-quality nursing care across a complex and growing system. You will be a visible champion for nursing at the executive and Board levels, and a trusted partner to clinical chiefs, physician leaders, and community stakeholders.
This is not a maintenance role. It is a transformational leadership opportunity for a nursing executive who is passionate about integrated care, workforce excellence, and community health equity.
Who You AreEducation
- Master's degree or higher in Nursing or Healthcare Administration (preferred)
Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio (required)
Experience
- Minimum of 9 years of progressive nursing leadership experience (required)
- Experience leading nursing teams across diverse patient populations (preferred)
- Background in FQHC, CBHC, behavioral health, crisis services, or integrated care is a strong advantage
Skills
- Demonstrated leadership of nursing teams and clinical processes across varied settings
- Ability to align nursing goals with organizational mission, vision, and values
- Strong operational management capabilities across multi-site, multi-service-line environments, including outpatient primary care, behavioral health, psychiatry, crisis receiving and stabilization, residential addiction treatment, mobile and community-based services, and emerging service lines
- Proficiency in budget management, resource planning, and performance metrics for nursing services
- Ability to navigate change, adapt strategies to meet community health needs, and lead through complexity with confidence and calmÂ
- Data-driven decision-making skills, using quality and safety performance data to improve outcomes
- Strong communication and advocacy skills, including experience presenting to Boards, CEOs, and community stakeholders
Strategic Leadership
You will develop and execute a comprehensive nursing strategy aligned with organizational goals and community health needs. You will drive innovation in care delivery models across clinic, crisis, residential, and community-based settings — ensuring The Centers remains a model for integrated healthcare in the region.
Supervisory & Personnel Leadership
You will provide direct supervision, development, and evaluation to the VP of Nursing Services and Director of Nursing for Crisis Services. You will set clear expectations and ownership for nursing staffing strategy — including FTE planning, float and coverage pool design, and nursing distribution across sites. You will also establish onboarding, orientation, and competency validation standards for all nursing and MA staff in partnership with the Nursing Supervisor team. Research consistently shows that investing in nursing leaders at every level is one of the most powerful drivers of quality, retention, and organizational performance.
Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
You will own nursing-related components of UDS reporting, HRSA compliance, and accreditation and survey readiness across all sites. You will track and act on nurse-sensitive quality indicators, incident reports, and adverse event trends, and will ensure that licensure, certification, and mandatory training compliance for all nursing staff remain current. You will maintain and update nursing policies in line with Ohio Board of Nursing regulations and FQHC and CBHC requirements.
Clinical Excellence & Patient Care
You will ensure all nurses are trained and competent in core evidence-based primary care and psychiatric nursing practice. You will drive clinical practice standardization through the creation of protocols, triage algorithms, immunization and medication administration policies, and infection control procedures. You will also own nursing visit training, chart review processes, and productivity benchmarks. For credentialed clinical professionals, redesigning work around top-of-license practice — offloading administrative burden to support staff — is essential to sustaining high performance and reducing burnout.
Workforce Development & Leadership
You will recruit, develop, and retain nursing staff at all levels. You will create leadership and professional development programs that build a strong internal pipeline and reinforce a culture where nursing talent can grow, lead, and thrive. The most successful organizations build structured internal pathways into credentialed and leadership roles rather than relying solely on external hiring.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
You will work in close partnership with physician and clinical leaders to ensure nursing roles are aligned with the clinical priorities of our primary care and psychiatry service lines. You will also partner with Human Resources on workforce initiatives, workforce planning, and talent strategy.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
You will represent nursing at executive and Board levels, build community and academic partnerships that strengthen the nursing pipeline, and serve as a visible leader for the nursing profession within and beyond The Centers.
Core Leadership CompetenciesStrategic Leadership & Vision — Translate a clear nursing vision into practice across all patient care settings, aligned with The Centers' mission, values, and strategic direction.
Clinical Expertise & Quality Assurance — Maintain deep clinical knowledge to guide evidence-based practice and ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards.
Operational Management — Plan, organize, and evaluate nursing services with rigor across a complex, integrated, multi-site system.
Team Leadership & Talent Development — Provide executive oversight to the nursing leadership structure and foster a collaborative, interdisciplinary care environment where people are developed, empowered, and retained.
Communication & Advocacy — Serve as the primary spokesperson for nursing to the CEO, Board, and community stakeholders, and communicate clearly the impact of decisions on nursing practice and patient care quality.
Change Management & Adaptability — Navigate organizational change and evolving care models with agility and a commitment to community health equity and value-based care. Leading organizations are those that cultivate leaders who model trust, authenticity, collaboration, and composure through change.
Data-Driven Decision Making — Use performance data to inform staffing, quality improvement, and budget decisions, and monitor key quality and safety indicators continuously.
Working ConditionsThis position is primarily performed in a professional office and clinical healthcare environment, with regular presence required across multiple service locations, including outpatient, behavioral health, crisis, residential, and community-based care settings. Travel between agency sites is required. The role requires frequent use of computers, electronic health records, video conferencing platforms, and standard office equipment. Exposure to clinical care environments — including infectious diseases, behavioral health crises, or emotionally distressed individuals — may occasionally occur. Occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours availability may be required to support organizational needs, emergency response, regulatory matters, or executive leadership responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.
Why The CentersWe are committed to being more than an employer — we are a community. Our team members do meaningful, mission-critical work every day, and we invest in our people as purposefully as we invest in our patients. We believe that the most successful healthcare organizations are those that align their nursing goals deeply with their mission and build leaders who inspire excellence at every level. Today's workforce seeks purpose, alignment with organizational values, and genuine opportunities for growth — and The Centers is committed to delivering on all three.
How to ApplyQualified candidates are encouraged to submit a resume and cover letter outlining their nursing leadership experience and their commitment to mission-driven, integrated healthcare.
